‘The Second City Saint’ is one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time
CM Punk has been part of the wrestling world for more than two decades, yet no one knows what his initials, ‘CM’, imply. His real name is Philip Jack Brooks, but no one remembers it since he never used it.
His ring moniker has always been “CM Punk.” The former WWE Champion had been altering his story about what the initials of his name meant until he proved them on oath in 2018.
What does CM Punk have to say about his name?
When he began wrestling in 2006, he said that the ‘CM’ in his moniker stood for C. Montgomery Burns, as in Mr Burns from The Simpsons. Then he explained that it stands for Crooked Moonsault, Charles Manson. “Cookie Monster is another one,” Punk said. Then, nine years later, before his UFC weigh-in, Punk offered another reason for his name’s initials.
He said it was ‘Chicago Made’. However, his supporters were well aware that this was yet another of Punk’s deceptive assertions. So no one took him seriously. However, the Second City Saint was forced to reveal the truth in 2018 when he was required to swear an oath on what his name signified.
CM Punk and Scott Colton, nicknamed Colt Cabana, were involved in a USD 1 million slander lawsuit against WWE doctor Christopher Amann. Punk was questioned in court about what his name signified.
He explained that it meant ‘Chick Magnet’. He said that he was thrown in a tag team match with a wrestler, whose partner had now arrived. And stated that it was intended to be a one-time arrangement.
Punk said, “They just put me in the ring and beat the crap out of me. I had to come back the next month and the next month and it was something that stuck. I tried to get rid of it, and it wound up getting shortened to the initials. I was always Punk, but Chick Magnet at least got shortened to CM.”
So it must be Chick Magnet Punk. Yeah? Doesn’t it sound awful? CM Punk fits wonderfully, thus it doesn’t matter what his initials are.
He is 46 years old and is still one of the biggest names in the industry. Punk had been gone from professional wrestling for several years after leaving WWE in 2014. He had a brief stint with UFC, which ended badly for him. He remained with Tony Khan’s AEW from 2021 until 2023. However, Punk got into a battle with Jack Perry, prompting him to leave a Jacksonville-based organization.
Punk made his comeback to WWE at Survivor Series 2023. CM Punk last competed at Bad WWE Blood 2024, when he faced Drew McIntyre in a Hell in a Cell match to complete his epic trilogy.
