‘The Best in the World’ is set to compete in his second WarGames match this weekend.
CM Punk believes that while he would have been the ideal final opponent for John Cena, the man most likely to secure that spot is Gunther. With the Last Time Is Now Tournament entering its final stages, the field is narrowing quickly. LA Knight, Jey Uso, Rusev, Gunther, and Solo Sikoa remain in contention, with Gunther and Sikoa already advancing to the semifinals.
Speaking on Up and Adams, Punk discussed Cena’s looming retirement match, which is set for December 13 at Saturday Night’s Main Event.
His early prediction? The Ring General could be the one standing across from the 17-time world champion in his final WWE bout.
CM Punk reflects on John Cena’s legacy

CM Punk started by expressing deep admiration for Cena’s career, calling him the sport’s equivalent of a generational icon.
“Cena is, I think, our Wayne Gretzky, I’ve been saying,” Punk noted.
“[He] is somebody who’s just kind of held it down for a very, very long time. And for him to wrap it up — watching him exit with such style and grace and dignity has been a real treat.”
He emphasized how rare it is for fans and peers to witness a farewell in real time.
“We don’t get to often say goodbye in real time to our sports heroes. So this is one time we can…” Punk added that the physical toll of WWE makes Cena’s healthy exit especially meaningful.
“Everything, every game, every match is fleeting. Could end like that. So you know, he’s leaving with his health.”
When choosing a final opponent from the active tournament field, Punk didn’t hesitate.
“Perfect probably would have been me,” he joked.
But then he made his real pick. “I don’t know if it’s perfect, but it’s looking like Gunther. Because I’ve been in the ring with him and I know what he can do, and I don’t know who else in that tournament can beat him right now.”
CM Punk hates Drew McIntyre the most in the WarGames match

Punk also generated headlines this week with comments about his heated rivalry with Drew McIntyre. Appearing on ESPN’s This Just In, he was asked which WarGames participant he hates the most. His response was immediate and unfiltered.
“It’s Drew. He’s a prick,”
Punk said, barely pausing before apologizing sarcastically for the language. He explained that the animosity is far deeper than normal storyline tension. “It’s uber personal with me and him.”
Punk compared his disdain for Logan Paul to the deeper issues with McIntyre. He confirmed the feud escalated after McIntyre made comments about his wife, AJ Lee, and even their dog, Larry.
“Most of humanity doesn’t like Logan Paul and it’s because he’s a douche… But Drew McIntyre is just kind of a next-level personal thing.”
“I’m not really big into forgiving or forgetting,” Punk said. “He knows what I can do to him inside of a cage match. And I’m just excited that I get to do it again on Saturday.”
The men’s WarGames match will feature Cody Rhodes, CM Punk, Roman Reigns, Jey Uso, and Jimmy Uso against Brock Lesnar, Drew McIntyre, Logan Paul, Bron Breakker, and Bronson Reed. McIntyre remains suspended in storyline, but Paul Heyman selected him as his team’s final member.
