‘The Best in the World’ could soon align with ‘The Final Boss’
With The Rock stepping back into the WWE spotlight and pushing his influence to shape the Road to WrestleMania 41, one big question remains, who will stand by his side? While many wonder if Cody Rhodes will cave in and align with the Hollywood megastar, there’s another name that could be a perfect fit for The Final Boss’ agenda: CM Punk.
‘The Second City Saint’ has made it clear since his return at Survivor Series 2023 that he’s in WWE for one reason, success, no matter the cost. With WrestleMania’s main event within reach, could he turn to The Rock as his golden ticket to the top?
CM Punk’s heel turn has been brewing since day one
Punk’s comeback speech in 2023 said he admitted he wasn’t back to make friends but to make money. Fast forward to January 2025, and he warned Cody Rhodes about betraying him upfront rather than from the shadows. Given Punk’s history with The Rock from their 2013 rivalry, the idea of them working together would be shocking but also, in true WWE fashion, a massive money-making move.
Paul Heyman’s mystery favor could be the key
Another intriguing element is the favor Paul Heyman owes CM Punk. Since Survivor Series 2024, speculation has run wild over what Punk could cash in on. Could it be the main event of WrestleMania? Heyman might not have the authority to grant that himself, but he does have a direct line to The Rock, a man who could pull the right strings.
If Punk and The Rock have been working behind the scenes, it could be a stunning betrayal for Cody Rhodes. With Punk’s desperation to finally headline WWE’s grandest stage, would he really pass up an opportunity to make it happen especially if it means siding with The Rock?

But with a stacked field of competitors and long-time rivals in his way, the odds are against him. If victory isn’t guaranteed, would he take a shortcut by striking a deal with The Final Boss?
The pieces are already aligning. Punk hinted at a ‘bigger star’ stepping in to take everything away from Cody Rhodes. Given his own past with The Rock derailing his main event dreams back in 2013, Punk might have finally realized it’s better to be on The Rock’s side than against him.
