“The Best in the World” is one of the biggest stars in WWE

CM Punk’s stellar feud with Drew McIntyre has captivated the audience for the better part of 2024. The rivalry seems to be in its last chapter, as the bitter enemies are slated to lock horns in the dreaded Hell in a Cell match at the Bad Blood PLE next month.

Ahead of the colossal clash, let’s look at CM Punk’s overall record in the Hell in a Cell match during his WWE career.

Hell in a Cell 2009

CM Punk had a daunting task when he defended his World Heavyweight title against The Undertaker in a Hell in a Cell match at the 2009 PPV with the same name.

The Second City Saint tried all the tricks in the book to topple his distinguished challenger. However, ‘The Phenom’ had just enough in the tank to thwart Punk’s advances and win his 3rd and final World title.

Hell in a Cell 2011

Punk’s other rodeo in this dangerous match type came when he and Alberto Del Rio challenged John Cena for his WWE title at the 2011 Hell in a Cell event. A triple-threat match is already a fast-paced affair, and the confines of a cell provide the perfect setting for all three competitors to wreak havoc.

The Voice of the Voiceless was primarily on the receiving end throughout the main event bout as one spot saw him pushed from the ring apron through a table placed at the ringside. The match’s finish saw Punk attempting his signature GTS maneuver on his fellow challenger; however, to everyone’s surprise, Del Rio hit him with a lead pipe to pick up a shock title victory.

Hell in a Cell 2012

Punk again found himself in the dreaded steel structure in the 2012 Hell in a Cell event. This time, he defended his beloved WWE title against a heavyweight adversary in the ilk of Ryback. Some memorable moments from the match include the Chicago native spraying a fire extinguisher onto his challenger.

Not only that, the champion even attacked Ryback with a kendo stick, but he was largely unaffected by it. The finish to the main event clash saw a shocking turn of events as referee Brad Maddox hit a low blow on the 291-pound performer.

This allowed Punk to go for a quick pinfall roll-up, and Maddox performed a fast count, ending the match in the champion’s favor. A frustrated Ryback took out his anger on Punk as he performed his trademark finisher, Shellshocked on the latter atop the cell.

Hell in a Cell 2013

In his third consecutive appearance in the cell, Punk faced the unlikely duo of Ryback and his former manager, Paul Heyman, in a two-on-one handicap match in the 2013 Hell in a Cell PPV. The two-time WWE champion was livid with the Wiseman as he had betrayed him in that year’s Money in the Bank ladder match. Punk had promised revenge on Heyman, and boy, did he deliver! First, he had the monumental task of out-maneuvering a beast in Ryback.

Punk did just that and some more, as his relentless attack meant his heavyweight performer couldn’t settle. The finish to the match saw ‘The Second City Saint’ performing an elbow drop while his adversary lay on a table; he finished his job by hitting a GTS.

Punk then focused on Heyman, who was stationed at the top of the cell all this while. The two-time money-in-the-bank winner finally got hold of the special counsel, and what followed was a blatant beatdown, first with Kendo stick and then with a GTS on the top of the dangerous structure—giving Punk his sweet revenge against Heyman.

CM Punk currently holds a 2-2 record in Hell in a Cell match. After his blockbuster Hell in a Cell match, it is confirmed that Punk would be facing Drew McIntyre at WWE Bad Blood 2024 in the same match, where it would be for the final time that The Scottish Psychopath & The Second City Saint would meet to end their rivalry for good.

The excitement for this blockbuster feud between CM Punk and Drew McIntyre is at an all-time high and it’ll be interesting to see who gets the bragging rights in this epic battle between the two stalwarts at the Bad Blood PLE.
