WWE Champion Cody Rhodes currently on planned two-to-three-week break: Report
Cody Rhodes suffered severe injuries during SNME last week
Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes recently defended his title against Kevin Owens. The two former friends clashed at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Long Island New York last week at the return of Saturday Night’s Main Event.
Rhodes walked out with the iconic Winged Eagle title for the clash in New York. The belt was being temporarily used by Cody for one night only, on loan from WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H.
The American Nightmare emerged on top as he successfully defended his title against Owens. However, he was brutally attacked after the show went off-air. Owens landed a devastating package piledriver on the champion.
According to WWE’s official statement, shared on both their website and social media platforms, Rhodes sustained significant injuries in the aftermath of the assault: “While X-rays were negative for a fracture, Rhodes has been officially diagnosed with axial compression of the cervical spine, as well as a cervical strain with spasm.”
Owens not only assaulted the champion but also took the Winged Eagle title with him. KO is scheduled to make an appearance on this week’s episode of SmackDown.

However, as per recent reports, the injury might be part of Kayfabe to give the champion a much-needed break ahead of the highly anticipated debut of Monday Night Raw on Netflix.
Reports suggest that Rhodes is currently on a planned two- to three-week break, which is why he was recently written off. The American Nightmare is expected to return in time for the debut of Raw on Netflix.
WWE Raw is about to make a groundbreaking move in 2025 as the flagship show transitions from traditional television to Netflix. Set to debut on January 6, 2025, the highly anticipated premiere will air live from the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles, California.
Cody Rhodes has completed 250 days as the Undisputed WWE Champion
The American Nightmare has completed 255 days as the Undisputed WWE Champion. He is now the third-longest reigning Undisputed WWE Champion behind Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar.
Cody Rhodes’ title defense at SNME against Owens was his seventh title defense since he captured the title after defeating Roman Reigns. Rhodes has defended the title seven times on WWE TV and PLEs. However, his total defenses rise to 53 when including dark matches and house shows.
He first defended his title against AJ Styles at WWE Backlash 2024 PLE which was held at the LDLC Arena in Décines-Charpieu, Lyon, France. Out of his seven title defenses, only one was made on WWE TV.
