Cody Rhodes is in talks to star in the Street Fighter movie!

Two of WWE’s biggest modern stars are preparing to step into a very different arena. Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns are both set to appear in the upcoming live-action Street Fighter reboot, marking their first on-screen collaboration outside the squared circle.

Cody Rhodes is reportedly in talks to play Guile, the American military hero known for his “Sonic Boom” attack and iconic flat-top hairstyle. Meanwhile, Reigns (real name Joe Anoa’i) has already been confirmed to portray Akuma, the mysterious and ruthless martial artist who debuted as a hidden boss in Super Street Fighter II Turbo.

The movie is being produced by Legendary Pictures in partnership with Capcom and distributed by Sony Pictures, with filming expected to begin in August 2025 in Australia.

All-star ensemble for the Street Fighter reboot

The upcoming adaptation features an impressive lineup of talent from across the entertainment world. Roman Reigns joins a cast that includes Andrew Koji (Ryu), Callina Liang (Chun-Li), Noah Centineo (Ken), Jason Momoa (Blanka), 50 Cent (Balrog), and Orville Peck (Vega). The film’s antagonist, M. Bison, will be portrayed by character actor David Dastmalchian.

Directed by Kitao Sakurai (Bad Trip) and scripted by Dalan Musson (Captain America: Brave New World), the reboot aims to deliver an authentic and grounded take on the legendary Capcom video game series.

This marks the first time Akuma will appear in a theatrical live-action production. As the dark counterpart to Ryu and Ken’s master Gouken, Akuma is expected to be a powerful presence in the film’s narrative.

Roman Reigns’ WWE return looming as SummerSlam approaches

While Reigns has been off WWE television since the RAW after WrestleMania 41, speculation is building around his return. According to WrestleVotes, his name has “popped up internally,” often signaling creative plans are being finalized, possibly for a SummerSlam 2025 comeback.

His last appearance saw him brutally taken out by Seth Rollins, Bron Breakker, and Paul Heyman, effectively writing him off TV for months. Reigns’ transition into film continues a trend set by stars like John Cena and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

Cody Rhodes is rumored to play an iconic fan-favorite

If cast as Guile, Cody Rhodes would follow in the footsteps of Jean-Claude Van Damme, who portrayed the character in the 1994 Street Fighter film. The American Nightmare’s polished look and charismatic presence make him a fitting choice for the heroic fighter.

With both Rhodes and Reigns part of Street Fighter’s ambitious reboot, WWE fans will see the two share the screen again, just not in a wrestling ring this time. The film is currently slated for release on March 20, 2026.
