Cody Rhodes to main event WWE King and Queen of The Ring 2024?: Rumors

Cody Rhodes successfully defended his Undisputed WWE Championship for the very first time against AJ Styles at Backlash 2024 in Lyon, France. Cody is also advertised for King and Queen of the Ring PLE on May 25, 2024.

As there are only three weeks for the show, what could be Cody’s role was the biggest question. Now a backstage update clarifies what Cody could be doing at the Saudi Arabia show.

Dave Meltzer on the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported that Cody Rhodes is “pegged” to main event King and Queen of the Ring 2024 PLE and the feud will be built up imminently. 

Meltzer reported,

“We were told by those in WWE that Rhodes is pegged for the main event on this show in a title match and the opponent should start being build imminently since the show is so close at the hand”

As the bookings for Cody’s opponent hadn’t begun, Meltzer speculated that some of the big names as the potential contenders for the title defense including Solo Sikoa, LA Knight, Kevin Owens & Randy Orton. However he figured out all of them are unlikely at some point. He said Kevin Owens & Solo Sikoa are unlikely to challenge, whereas Randy Orton & LA Knight are engaged in King of the Ring Tournaments.

Meltzer speculates,

“On Smackdown, the key title contenders would seem to be Solo Sikoa, L.A. Knight and Randy Orton. Orton vs. Rhodes should happen, but with more build. Knight can happen now, but both Knight and Orton are in the tournament. Sikoa is not, nor is Kevin Owens, but Owens was pinned on this show, which doesn’t mean he can’t challenge for the title at the next PPV show but it would seem unlikely.”

Cody is scheduled for the upcoming May 10, 2024 episode of SmackDown, based on the reports it seems like he will be finding out his next challenger. Cody seems to be the man on his words as he previously promised that he would defend the title in every country possible. Who should be challenging Cody Rhodes next?
