Bautista announced his retirement from WWE in 2019
Dave Bautista better known among wrestling fans by his ring name Batista left the pro-wrestling world in 2019 to make a career in Hollywood. Since the transition, the WWE legend has starred in major movies solidifying his acting prowess.
Bautista’s iconic portrayal of Drax in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise catapulted him to stardom. He has since built a diverse and accomplished acting career, with notable roles in a wide range of films and TV shows, including James Bond, Blade Runner, Glass Onion, and Knock at the Cabin as well as Apple TV+’s See. He also worked with WWE star Drew McIntyre on a recent movie.
According to recent reports from Deadline, the WWE legend and his production company, Dogbone Entertainment, has recently signed a deal with WME (William Morris Endeavor). WME is the primary owner of the TKO Group.
TKO Group was created by Endeavor as part of a merger between World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc. (WWE) and Zuffa, the parent company of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
This deal presents a chance for the individual and the company to elevate their profile, gain a competitive edge, and establish themselves alongside industry leaders in the television and film sectors.
The WWE legend can be seen starring opposite Pamela Anderson in The Last Showgirl, Gia Coppola’s Vegas drama which was released last week.
Batista is also currently set to star opposite Anne Hathaway in an untitled action comedy that Tropper is scripting for Amazon MGM Studios and AGBO as reported by Deadline.
Batista is a four-time WWE World Heavyweight Champion
Batista began his pro-wrestling career with his WWE debut in 1999 and quickly became one of the top names in the company. He later joined the Evolution, a stable that is regarded as one of the best wrestling stables of all time.
The Hollywood star has multiple accolades when it comes to the squared ring, he is a two-time Undisputed Champion as well as a four-time World Heavyweight Champion.
In addition to his singles career success, Batista has also enjoyed tag team triumphs, capturing the World Tag Team Championship three times (twice alongside Ric Flair and once with John Cena) and the WWE Tag Team Championship once with Rey Mysterio.
The former champion initially left the promotion in 2010 citing disagreements with the promotion. However, he made his return in 2014 which was short-lived as he quit WWE after Triple H denied him a shot at the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
Batista’s second return to the promotion came in 2018 when he reunited with the rest of Evolution for an appearance on SmackDown’s 1000th episode. He last competed at WrestleMania 35 against Triple H, where he lost after interference from Ric Flair.
Dave retired from professional wrestling shortly after WrestleMania 35 in 2019 to focus full-time on his acting career.
