‘The Best in the World’ returned to WWE at the 2023 Survivor Series

CM Punk made his surprise return to the WWE at the 2023 Survivor Series WarGames PLE in Chicago. Punk has been part of the wrestling world for more than two decades and is impeccable in the ring and on the mic.

In his last outing, CM Punk defeated Drew McIntyre in the Hell in a Cell at WWE Bad Blood 2024 PLE. The next night on RAW, Punk confirmed that he would be returning home for a while and has since been absent from the promotion.

The match at Bad Blood 2024 PLE was the result of a heated feud between the two stars that ended with Punk claiming one of his greatest victories in a decade.

Punk has multiple accolades to his name in the wrestling scene and his 434-day WWE Championship reign is the seventh longest in WWE history. Sharing the ring with such a legend is an immense opportunity that no upcoming star should pass on.

Dominik Mysterio reflects on the significance of being CM Punk’s opponent

In a recent conversation on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Dominik Mysterio shared his thoughts on being Punk’s first opponent after his highly anticipated return to the promotion last year. Punk returned to the promotion after a nine-year hiatus.

Mysterio fought Punk in the squared ring during a house show on Boxing Day 2023. Reflecting on the match with a legend such as Punk, Mysterio shared surprise and pride at getting the opportunity.

“Yeah, kind of crazy. I didn’t expect it to be me, just because we have so much great talent right now, especially the roster we have today, Raw and SmackDown. But the fact that they trusted me to go in there with him on his first match back, like you said, after what, 10 years, I’m glad I was able to give him his first punch.” He added.

Msyertio also expressed what it meant to earn WWE’s confidence, “It was special because I knew the company trusted me with things like that. I wasn’t aware of it until I kind of got pulled aside and was like, ‘Hey, how do you feel about working CM Punk for the live events tour?’ And I was like, ‘Bring it on, let’s go.’
