After over two decades and 16 World titles, John Cena has finally turned heel
The 2025 edition of the Elimination Chamber PLE delivered such a jaw-dropping moment that no pro wrestling fan could have predicted. John Cena turning heel might have been a few fans’ demands a few years ago but the 16-time WWE World Champion did the unthinkable and sold his soul to The Rock.
Cena outlasted everyone and put CM Punk to sleep in the final moments with a STF to bag the win in the men’s Chamber match and confirmed his ticket for the WrestleMania PLE.
However, after the match, as announced, Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson appeared for the segment, where Johnson awaited Cody’s response. It all started last week on SmackDown when The Rock made his highly anticipated return.
He called Cody Rhodes to the ring and made a bold declaration: he didn’t want Cody’s Undisputed WWE Championship, he wanted his soul. The Final Boss gave Cody until Elimination Chamber to make his decision. However, Rhodes declared that his soul belonged to the ring and the WWE Universe, then looked The Rock in the eye and told him, “Hey Rock, go f**k yourself!”
Cena initially seemed to approve, but everything changed once he hugged Cody and Johnson signaled. Out of nowhere, Cena turned on Rhodes with a shocking low blow, sending the champion crashing to the mat. What followed was a brutal, merciless beatdown. Cena used Cody’s own watch to hammer him, slammed a microphone into his head, and even choked him with his own tie, leaving the WWE Universe in disbelief.
The pro wrestling world is still in shock after the Chamber PLE
Following John Cena‘s heel turn, a plethora of wrestling stars and personalities reacted to the heel turn, Drew McIntyre was one of the first to react as he tweeted mocking the 16-time World Champion, “Cena the Hypocrite Travis Scott existing And another roll up”
Cody Rhodes’ wife Brandi Rhodes also reacted to the brutal beatdown of the champion by Cena tweeting, “John Cena Sucks“.
Pat McAfee, who was on the commentary for the PLE alongside Michael Cole and Wade Barett also gave his thoughts on the segment, pointing out that The Final Boss always has a plan.
Women’s World Champion Rhea Ripley also couldn’t believe John Cena turning heel and expressed her amazement via X.
Bronson Reed tweeted stating that he likes this version of Cena and he might not land a Tsunami on him. While Karrion Kross also replied to a fan tweet, stating that he saw it earlier and the fans have now seen it too. Matt Hardy and Natalya joined the list of stars who reacted to the heel turn via X.
