WWE in 2024 introduced some new PLEs

In the past two years, WWE has embarked on a transformative international expansion strategy that has significantly elevated its global profile and financial stability. As noted by wrestling insider Dave Meltzer, WWE’s focus has shifted from its historical emphasis on ticket sales to a novel business model that prioritizes consistent revenue streams through site fees and large gates.

While ticket sales remain strong, there is now less pressure to sell out every event. This shift allows WWE to maintain financial health even if interest in individual shows fluctuates. A crucial aspect of this strategy involves retaining premier events like WrestleMania, Royal Rumble, SummerSlam, and Survivor Series in North America while hosting other events internationally.

Recent examples include the Backlash held in France and the anticipated Bash in Berlin, Germany. This global approach not only expands WWE’s reach but also nurtures passionate fanbases worldwide.

To execute this strategy effectively, WWE is striking a balance by hosting iconic pay-per-view events in new international locations and simultaneously launching new shows tailored to specific regions.

Traditional events such as the Elimination Chamber have appeared in places like Melbourne, Australia, and Backlash in France. Concurrently, WWE has introduced new premium live events like Clash at the Castle, catered to Scottish and UK audiences, and Bash in Berlin tailored for German fans. This dual approach ensures that WWE engages diverse global audiences while staying true to its historic roots. Now let us take a look at the list of new premium live events that WWE has announced in 2024.

King and Queen of the Ring

This event has undergone a significant rebranding, evolving from the traditional King of the Ring to include female superstars, highlighting WWE’s commitment to gender equality. The inclusion of a Queen of the Ring title underscores how female superstars have come a long way in establishing themselves as just as significant draws as their male counterparts.

Held at the Jeddah Super Dome in Saudi Arabia, the event saw Gunther crowned as WWE King of the Ring 2024, while Nia Jax became the first WWE Queen of the Ring under its new title, marking a historic moment since the tournament transitioned from its initial Queen’s Crown name.

Bash in Berlin

Scheduled for August 31, 2024, at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Berlin, this is WWE’s first-ever PPV event in Germany. The arena’s capacity of around 17,000 promises an electrifying atmosphere, especially as the hometown hero Gunther defends his WWE World Heavyweight Championship against the Viper Randy Orton in the main event of the show. The anticipation of Gunther’s signature chops in front of his compatriots is set to be a memorable highlight.

Bad Blood

While technically not a new PPV, Bad Blood is included here due to its highly anticipated return after a 20-year hiatus. It is making a comeback at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. The last Bad Blood event took place in 2004, featuring a memorable main event where Triple H faced off against Shawn Michaels.

This year, the event will replace Hell in a Cell, and the current storyline heat suggests a possible main event between CM Punk and Drew McIntyre in a First Blood match. Their intense rivalry perfectly embodies the “bad blood” theme.

As of 2024, WWE has announced these as the only new or renewed premium live events. However, with WWE’s ongoing international expansion strategies, fans can look forward to the possibility of even more exciting and diverse PPVs being added to the calendar shortly. As WWE continues to build its presence worldwide, the global fanbase eagerly anticipates what’s next in this dynamic era of sports entertainment.
