CM Punk’s unexpected return to WWE at Money in the Bank had a significant impact on the night’s proceedings. During the World Heavyweight title match between Damian Priest and Seth Rollins, Drew McIntyre cashed in his Money in the Bank contract, turning the bout into a triple threat. In the final moments, Punk made his presence felt by attacking McIntyre, costing him a chance to become World Champion.

Punk addressed his actions during the press conference and hinted at a possible showdown with McIntyre at SummerSlam. This potential clash adds another layer of excitement to WWE’s upcoming events, especially if Punk is cleared for in-ring action.

CM Punk on John Cena’s retirement and their relationship

John Cena recently announced his intention to retire at the end of 2025, a decision that has the wrestling world buzzing. CM Punk, a longtime rival and friend of Cena, expressed his admiration for Cena’s ability to call it quits on his own terms. “He gets to go out on his terms,” Punk said. “That’s important. I’m looking forward to what he does. And I told him, ‘If it’s going to be one more time, we’ve got to do it at least one more time.’”

Punk spoke warmly about the significance of Cena to his career. “Cena, to my career, means a lot,” Punk noted. “If you talk about my career, you have to talk about John. It makes me proud that if you talk about John’s career, you have to talk about me.” This mutual respect between the two icons highlights the impact they’ve had on each other’s careers.

Punk humorously compared their dynamic to that of famous superheroes. “I looked at it as Superman and Batman,” he said, drawing a parallel between their on-screen personas and their storied rivalry. He also recounted a text exchange with Cena on the night of Money in the Bank. “I texted him right away [at Money in the Bank] and said, ‘Don’t leave before you say hi to me,’” Punk recalled. “And he texted back, ‘Haha, have a good one tonight.’ I immediately took that as, ‘Piss off, I’m leaving.’”

Despite the playful banter, Punk made it clear he values his relationship with Cena and hinted at a possible future encounter. “I was pleasantly surprised to run into him afterward. I told him, I’ll be the guy that drags him out of retirement.”

CM Punk spoke on AJ Lee’s return to WWE

Speculation was rife that AJ Lee, Punk’s wife and former WWE superstar, might make a surprise appearance at Money in the Bank. However, Punk clarified that AJ was at home taking care of their dog, Larry. He did not rule out the possibility of her return but emphasized that she is currently focused on endeavors outside the wrestling business. “Never say never,” Punk remarked, leaving the door open for future possibilities while making it clear that AJ is content with her current pursuits.

CM Punk’s return to WWE, as well as his statements during the Money in the Bank post-show press conference, have paved the way for numerous exciting events. His thoughts on John Cena’s retirement, the possibilities of future matches, and AJ Lee’s probable return have left fans eagerly anticipating more.
