John Cena defeated R-Truth in the May 24 edition of SNME!

Following his first title defense, John Cena battled R-Truth in a non-title match on the May 24 edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event. The 17-time World Champion picked up an easy win, but what caught fans’ attention was his backstage interaction with World Heavyweight Champion Jey Uso before the main event.

In the main event of SNME, Jey Uso defended the World Heavyweight title against Logan Paul, this was Jey’s second title defense. Before the clash, Jey ran into Cena backstage as Cena stated that he would be keeping a close eye on the match.

Cena also suggested that the best way to ruin wrestling might be by taking the Undisputed title with him, while the World Heavyweight Championship ends up around the waist of a “YouTuber.” This was a warning for Jey about what was to come as Cena interfered in the match, pulling out the referee while he was making the pin count and then attacking Jey.

However, a familiar face rushed to aid Jey as Cody Rhodes, who had been absent from WWE programming since WrestleMania 41, returned and aided Jey from Cena and Paul. Rhodes then announced a tag team match between the two teams for Money in the Bank 2205, the promotion later confirmed the match for the PLE.

WWE fans are unhappy over the trajectory of John Cena’s farewell tour

Fans have long been waiting to see John Cena during his farewell tour battling with emerging stars and legends, while he recently battled his career-long rival Randy Orton at Backlash 2025, fans further want to see him against stars like CM Punk, Roman Reigns, and AJ Styles, to name a few.

The announcement of the tag team, where Cena will team up with Logan Paul, was not well received by WWE fans. Many took to social media to vent their frustration over the trajectory of Cena’s farewell tour.

Some fans also urged WWE to keep Travis Scott away from the match, as there are reports that he could feature in a tag match alongside John Cena at Money in the Bank. Paul has proved his in-ring accolades multiple times, with even Cena acknowledging Paul, famously stating that there will be a time fans will “wake up to Logan Paul.”

Paul certainly draws attention, whether fans love him or hate him, he’s almost impossible to ignore. It will be interesting to see how the storyline between Cena and Rhodes unfolds during the match, after all, that’s what it’s all about.
