The Ring General hold the record for the longest Intercontinental Championship reign in history
Gunther is one of the best-in-class wrestlers on the active WWE roster. He has been in the company since 2019 and has been making a huge impact wherever he steps in. Gunther throughout his WWE career so far, has been surrounded by the championship spotlight. He holds two of the longest championship reigns in WWE, with his NXT UK Championship reign of 870 days and his Intercontinental Championship reign of 666 days.
The Ring General on the main roster has been more dominant, with an undefeated record in the singles matches. However at WrestleMania 40, Sami Zayn ended both his undefeated streak and the longest Intercontinental Championship reign, making the Austrian suffer his first defeat.
This shocked the WWE Universe and is considered as one of the biggest underdog moments. Gunther after the loss has not been seen on TV, however the latest report reveal The Ring General’s WWE television return dates.
Gunther’s WWE return
According to Wrestling Votes report, Gunther will be making his WWE return on the April 22, 2024 episode of Monday Night Raw, which is scheduled to take place at the Schottenstein Center in Columbus, Ohio, United States.
Although this is being the first television appearance of The Ring General after WrestleMania 40, The Ring General made his in-ring return in a non-televised WWE Live Event in the UK tour. Gunther wrestled on April 17, 2024 in Birmingham, United Kingdom.
The Ring General faced Sami Zayn, Finn Balor and Chad Gable in a Fatal 4-Way match for the Intercontinental Championship, but Sami Zayn retained the title. This was Gunther’s first International match since his travel restrictions were lifted, after filing a Green Card in the United States.
Upon return, Gunther is expected to go back and challenge for the Intercontinental Championship or move on to begin his pursuit for the World Championship. As WWE Draft 2024 is less than weeks away, it would be interesting to see where the Ring General ends up.
Gunther previously before Royal Rumble 2024 confronted Seth Rollins and teased of coming for the World Heavyweight Championship, however he held the Intercontinental title and was unable to win the Royal Rumble.
What are your thoughts about Gunther’s future in WWE? Will we be able to see him as a Champion again this year?
