AJ Lee last appeared on WWE in March 2015
Former Divas Champion AJ Lee has not been seen in the WWE ring since her departure in 2015. Lee announced her retirement from the WWE due to her cervical spine injury.
Lee has also won the Divas Championship a record-tying three times, tied with retired WWE star Eve Torres. She had the longest combined reign as Divas Champion, at 406 days.
In recent times, the WWE Women’s division has been arguably the strongest it has ever been. The possibility of the return of such a huge star as Lee would only boost the division’s popularity.
Since the return of former WWE Champion CM Punk at the 2023 Survivor Series, fans have speculated about the former Divas champion’s return. Lee and Punk tied the knot in 2014 when they were both in the WWE.
Since her retirement, AJ Lee has pursued many endeavors outside of wrestling
In a recent episode of the WrestleBinge podcast, WWE Hall of Famer, Teddy Long commented on his experience with Lee and expressed his desire to see the former Divas Champion back in the WWE ring.
Long stated, “I’ve met her when I was there before she ever married CM Punk, so I had the opportunity to work with her. What a nice person. Real nice lady. And great attitude and everything. Yeah, I think it’s time for her to come back.”
Long further explained that Lee has good relations with the promotion, “I think it’s time for her to come back — She didn’t leave on bad terms, and they didn’t bury her before she left. I think right now she’d be a big asset to them.”
The former Divas Champion joined the Women of Wrestling (WOW) promotion as an executive producer in October 2021 after spending six years away from the pro-wrestling world. She departed from WOW in August 2023.
She has also worked as a writer and has written her memoir, ‘Crazy Is My Superpower: How I Triumphed by Breaking Bones, Breaking Hearts, and Breaking the Rules’, the memoir was published by Crown Archetype in 2017.
She is currently writing her own comic book series, Day of the Dead Girl. The first issue of the book was released on October 9, 2024.
On the other hand, Lee’s husband CM Punk also addressed the situation during a post-show press meeting of Money in the Bank 2024 expressing his desire to see Lee back in action and has emphasized that the decision is entirely hers, as he does not want to pressure her into a comeback.
