Lately, fans have been complaining about the rising cost of tickets.
WWE fans have been voicing their frustration with high ticket prices for the shows lately, now Hall of Famer Teddy Long has joined in the conversation, blasting the promotion on how much fans are expected to pay to attend shows under TKO Group Holdings.
In a recent installment of his Road Trip After Hours podcast, Long replied to a fan criticizing “ridiculous” ticket prices, which they said make it difficult for parents to take their kids to live shows. The Hall of Famer didn’t hesitate to voice his opinion, noting how people are struggling due to the current state of the economy.
“Well, you know, here’s what I think about that. You know, it’s kind of called greed. You know what I mean? And when you get greedy, sometimes that causes your problem. Right now, you know, you’re living in this world. The economy is really not in a whole lot of good shape. A lot of people out of work out there, so they can’t afford to buy those tickets.”
Long also shared a moment from his recent visit to Walmart, noting how everything has become so expensive, stating that while he can afford it, some people will struggle buying day-to-day essentials.
“I went in Walmart today, and I just got a few things, and I got this and it’s $200. And I’m like, Jesus Christ, what can you do? You have to have these things and I just thank God I had the money to pay for them but there’s some people are not going to be that lucky. They aren’t going to have the money to pay for that stuff.”
Host Mac Davis agreed with Long’s points, discussing that the new corporate mindset is very different from what former CEO and co-founder Vince McMahon stood for.
“I never saw Vince McMahon, or never felt like he was trying to get every penny out of somebody’s pocket. And I feel like that’s what WWE is right now. I feel like they’re trying to suck every single penny they can out of your pocket without care as to what it may do to you or your family or maybe your fan base dwindles because they can’t afford to come see your show anymore.”
Teddy Long comments on speculations of Vince McMahon buying back WWE
The speculations about the former co-founder and CEO of WWE buying back the promotion from TKO picked up steam lately, and Teddy Long also chimed in, commenting on the speculations. Long addressed Eric Bischoff’s recent comments on his podcast. Bischoff had said the idea was unlikely but remained possible if McMahon obtained sufficient financial support.
Host Mac Davis cited Bischoff’s exact words to provide context, “According to Eric Bischoff: ‘Never say never. I can’t imagine the scenario where that would be likely, however, it’s plausible. TKO might not be interested, but it’s a publicly held company… it is plausible that Vince McMahon could put together enough money to make an offer.
And because it would have a potentially good impact on the shareholders’ value, the offer would have to be entertained.“
The Hall of Fame responded, stating, “Well, like I always tell you—every man has a price.” Host Davis added to the comment, stating Netflix might get ‘edgy’ if ratings start to drop.
“Especially if your company right now is, you know, money… and you see the ratings, and they’re not getting better they’re getting worse. If that’s the case, Netflix is going to get kind of edgy about everything. So you never know what may happen.”
Davis added that he believes that it’s still not over for McMahon and he might come back one day, probably within sports entertainment.
“I still believe though we will see Vince McMahon one day, somewhere, somehow back in the public eye, and probably within sports entertainment.”
