How 2024 WWE Draft will be different from those in past years?: Backstage report

The superstar shakeup is coming up very soon

The WWE Draft 2024 is all set to take place in the upcoming weeks. WWE‘s iconic event of a brand split is set to take place for the 18th time this year. The Night 1 of WWE Draft will begin on the April 26, 2024 episode of SmackDown at the Heritage Bank Center in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Following that, Night 2 of the Draft will take place on the April 29, 2024 episode of Raw at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Missouri. As the whole WWE Universe has their sights on the superstar shakeup, backstage reports suggest that this year’s Draft is likely to be unique to the recent Drafts.

NXT could play a big role in WWE Draft 2024

Multiple sources reported that NXT will be included in this year’s WWE Draft, and there is a possibility of WWE talents moving to the NXT brand. It is reported that the company has been planning to make NXT their third brand and teased it last week with the arrival of The Final Testament & Ivar to NXT.

It is said that the next two weeks of WWE NXT TV will be heavily focused on the draft leading to the NXT Spring Braking special events.

Corey Brennan of Fightful Select reported that Shawn Michaels is not sure about who will be moving from NXT to Main Roster (Raw & SmackDown) in the draft. However, the report gives a spoiler stating that Carmelo Hayes & Ilja Dragunov are said to be a lock for a switch to either Raw or SmackDown.

However the NXT Women’s Champion, Roxanne Perez’s Draft status remains to be up in the air, despite recent main roster appearances on television. The report added that Tony D’Angelo & Baron Corbin are the other two potential wrestlers to move to the main roster as part of the Draft.

It is noted that the timing of the 2024 WWE Draft isn’t coincidental as the company has planned the event to take place along the side of the NFL Draft to capitalize on the “Draft Fever”, which WWE usually does.

The CW and Netflix deals seem to play a major role as they are expected to make some decisions in the draft. A source reported that, as the Netflix deal is closer to next year’s draft than this year’s draft, their decisions will not be something to be worried about for a while.
