It will be a huge build for “The Second City Sant”

A year ago, CM Punk’s return to WWE seemed unthinkable, but now he finds himself in the middle of one of the company’s most intense blood feuds as SummerSlam 2024 approaches. His unexpected return at last year’s Survivor Series marked the beginning of an incredible run, despite the fact that his in-ring involvement was restricted to only one broadcast bout.

Upon his return, he had heated interactions with Seth Rollins, wrestled in the men’s Royal Rumble match, and traded verbal jabs with Drew McIntyre, who was responsible for putting him on the shelf with an injury in late January. The two will ultimately square off one-on-one at SummerSlam on Saturday, with Rollins serving as the special guest referee.

Regardless of the conclusion in Cleveland this weekend, it is unclear where CM Punk will go from there or what the organization has planned for him for the rest of 2024. Anything can happen in the WWE environment between now and WrestleMania 41, but the following appears to be his most likely return to The Grandest Stage of Them All.

Seth Rollins turns his back and has a unfair match at WWE SummerSlam 2024

CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre in a straight-up singles contest would have been great for SummerSlam given their intense conflict over the previous seven months, but Rollins as referee is entirely natural given his history with both guys.

Not only does it place Rollins in an apparent and prominent position at the event, but it also allows Punk or McIntyre to lose. The Visionary would be disappointed if he merely called the contest down the middle, so he must factor into the outcome to maximize his engagement.

Rollins inadvertently costing Punk the victory achieves several things. It wouldn’t technically classify as a heel change for The Visionary if it wasn’t intentional, but even if it was, it might reignite his feud with Punk following SummerSlam.

Furthermore, it gives McIntyre a tainted victory against The Best in the World, cementing their rivalry. McIntyre has far more to gain by defeating CM Punk at this point than the other way around. The Scott must redeem himself after his competitor has had his number all year, and Punk can always revenge the defeat later on.

Triple Threat at Bash in Berlin

After SummerSlam, the next stage in the narrative should be CM Punk, Drew McIntyre, and Seth Rollins facing off in a Triple Threat match at Bash in Berlin on August 31 would be the ideal pay-per-view for such a high-profile showdown.

To raise the stakes, a chance at the World Heavyweight Championship at Bad Blood on October 5 can be made available. CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre should be a great match at SummerSlam, but adding Rollins to the mix would make it even better. Given the level of quality among the three past world champions, they couldn’t have anything less than a fantastic triple threat match.

Rollins winning would make the most sense, setting him up for a battle with Gunther (who should be the world heavyweight title by then) and allowing Punk and McIntyre to restart their feud separately by canceling each other out.

Bad Blood commemorates the 27th anniversary of the original episode, which featured the first-ever Hell in a Cell bout. Thus, it is only natural that the McIntyre vs. Punk program concludes within The Devil’s Playground. Punk’s stunning victory can finally put an end to their feud.

CM Punk vs Seth Rollins – Finale

Prior to the former’s injury at the Royal Rumble, WWE was aiming for a World Heavyweight Championship match between CM Punk and Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 40. Triple H stated as much in the latest WrestleMania XL: Behind the Curtain DVD.

Although that is a ‘Mania-worthy meeting, they’ve had enough previous interactions to make waiting until next April too lengthy. Thus, the only option would be for them to feud in the months leading up to the main event rather than on the big stage itself.

This would successfully keep both guys occupied until WrestleMania season begins, as well as provide Raw with the much-needed boost of interest in the latter stretch of the year. Whether they have their first huge match at Survivor Series or elsewhere, nothing must be at risk for it to be exciting.

Once he defeats McIntyre, Punk should build momentum for ‘Mania by defeating Rollins as well. It wouldn’t be surprising to see them as the final two in the 2025 men’s Royal Rumble, but Punk has a bigger aim to reach at WrestleMania 41.

Winning Royal Rumble 2025 and facing GUNTHER at WrestleMania 41

When CM Punk returned to WWE at Survivor Series 2023, he was considered a high favorite to win the men’s Royal Rumble event. The seeds were placed for a WrestleMania 40 showdown against then-world heavyweight champion Rollins, and winning the Rumble was one of the few accomplishments he had yet to achieve in his career.

Of course, he was eventually unsuccessful, but winning the Rumble in 2025 is not impossible. It may be the greatest conceivable ending for the men’s rumble match, making for the most compelling tale.

After finishing his feuds with Drew McIntyre and Seth Rollins, CM Punk’s next target should be Gunther, who will own Raw’s top championship by then. Punk and Gunther are exactly opposite to each other in almost every way, that they’d make excellent opponents.

The promos have the potential to be incredible, and the bout is WrestleMania big event-worthy. It is not necessary for Punk to dethrone The Ring General as champion, but he does deserve to compete in a headline battle at WrestleMania next year, and a bout against Gunther would be just that.
