CM Punk and Seth Rollins have disliked each other for years.
WWE presented one of the most enthralling and captivating Premium Live Events of the summer, WWE SummerSlam, which set the record for 57,791 fans in attendance at the Cleveland Browns Stadium. One of the most talked about in-ring encounters witnessed at the show was the highly anticipated match between heated foes CM Punk and Drew McIntyre, with Seth “Freakin” Rollins as the Special Guest Referee.
After months of an intense and personal feud without coming to blows, Punk and McIntyre were ready to collide. For CM Punk, it was about extracting revenge from the man who injured him at the 2024 Royal Rumble. For Drew McIntyre, it was about decimating the man who cost him multiple World Title opportunities.
The match was intense and hard-hitting, and it was a stellar showdown that captivated the audience in Cleveland. Moreover, it was CM Punk’s first singles in-ring bout in almost 11 years, which had the fans waiting to see what The Best in the World had to bring. However, Seth Rollins, being the WWE official, added an intriguing layer with his impartiality and goofiness, as he hated both men equally.
However, towards the end of the bout, an altercation ensured between Punk and Rollins, leading to Punk planting him with the GTS. But his actions gave McIntyre the opening to hit a low blow and then connect a Claymore Kick to secure the win.
But as the match came to an end, McIntyre once again took CM Punk’s bracelet, which Punk had gotten back during the match. This could indicate that their feud is not over, and WWE could have more matches between the duo. Moreover, Seth Rollins’ presence could remain in this feud with a possible triple-threat match between the three WWE stars.
Furthermore, as the road to WrestleMania 41 would begin, WWE could fully focus on building the rivalry between CM Punk and Seth Rollins leading to their blockbuster match at The Show of Shows in Las Vegas next year. The match was supposed to be the headliner for the show this year, but plans fell after CM Punk injured his triceps in January. However, SummerSlam might have given a preview of what the fans can expect when Rollins and Punk finally collide.
