Dominik Mysterio is currently a double champion!
Just weeks after defeating John Cena on a major Premium Live Event stage, one of WWE’s most popular stars may be facing unexpected time on the sidelines. WWE Intercontinental Champion “Dirty” Dominik Mysterio reportedly suffered a legitimate injury over the weekend, raising concern about his immediate future.
Mysterio has been one of WWE’s top performers of 2025, enjoying the most successful year of his career. However, momentum may have been halted following an incident outside WWE programming.
Injury reportedly occurred at AAA main event
According to Bryan Alvarez of The Wrestling Observer, Mysterio was legitimately injured during the main event of Saturday night’s AAA show. He teamed with El Grande Americano against Rey Mysterio and Rey Fénix in a high-profile bout that ended with an unfortunate turn.
Alvarez reported that Dominik Mysterio took a DDT from Rey Mysterio near the end of the match, at which point the injury occurred. Alvarez noted that while details were still developing, he was under the impression that the injury was a separated shoulder.
The exact severity of the injury remains unclear as of press time. Recovery timelines for separated shoulders can vary significantly, sometimes requiring only rest and rehabilitation, while more serious cases may lead to surgery and extended time away from the ring.
The match itself concluded with the babyface team picking up the win. Following the finish, Americano shook hands with Rey, while Dominik visibly walked off, signaling that something may have been wrong.
A bittersweet end to a dominant 2025 for the double champion

If confirmed, the timing would be particularly cruel given Mysterio’s outstanding year. He captured the WWE Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 41, defeating Bron Breakker, Finn Bálor, and Penta in a four-way match to claim his first WWE singles title.
Mysterio carried the championship for much of the year before unexpectedly dropping it to John Cena on Monday Night Raw at Cena’s final show in Boston. That victory made Cena a WWE Grand Slam Champion.
Cena’s reign was brief, as Dominik regained the Intercontinental Championship at Survivor Series, aided by the return of Liv Morgan, who herself had undergone shoulder surgery earlier in the summer.
Beyond WWE, Mysterio also won the AAA Mega Championship in September, defeating El Hijo del Vikingo, marking his first title victory in AAA. Across WWE and AAA, he wrestled 51 matches in 2025, cementing his status as one of the industry’s most active champions.
An injury closing out the year would be a bittersweet chapter in what has otherwise been a career-defining run for the younger Mysterio.
