John Cena and Cody Rhodes are all set to face each other at WWE SummerSlam 2025

A potential character shift could be brewing at the top of WWE’s main event scene, as speculation grows about a double turn between Cody Rhodes and John Cena. The two icons are set to clash in the Street Fight main event of WWE SummerSlam 2025 Night Two, but recent chatter has fans wondering if this showdown will also mark a turning point in their characters.

While Cody Rhodes has been the face of WWE’s modern babyface resurgence, the American Nightmare himself recently admitted that he may be nearing the end of his run as the heroic figure fans have embraced since his return.

Earlier this year, The Rock reportedly pushed for Rhodes to turn heel as part of The Bloodline storyline. Cody Rhodes, however, was said to have rejected the idea, remaining committed to his babyface role even as tension with The Final Boss escalated.

Despite his refusal at the time, Cody hinted in a recent interview that he feels like he’s approaching a natural evolution. John Cena’s character shift to a corporate-backed villain has shaken the WWE landscape. However, recent promos have subtly suggested that even he is struggling with the direction he’s taken.

In fact, Cena has hinted at an internal conflict and a possible return to his roots. If Cody does move toward a more ruthless persona, it would set the stage for Cena to re-establish himself as the moral compass of WWE.

That kind of role reversal has fans buzzing about a traditional “double turn”, a rare but powerful storytelling device that could reshape WWE’s main event picture.

No ‘double turn’ planned as of now

Despite all the speculation, reports suggest WWE isn’t planning a double turn, at least not at SummerSlam. According to BodySlam.net, there are currently no creative plans in place to turn Cody heel during the pay-per-view.

Still, with the emotional stakes and high-profile setting of MetLife Stadium, fans know that in WWE, anything can change at a moment’s notice. For now, Cena vs Rhodes remains a battle between good and evil, until it’s not.
