John Cena could face this former IC Champion in his retirement tour

John Cena is all set to retire from in-ring action at WrestleMania 41

John Cena is one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time, who has been in WWE for more than two decades. Cena is one of the most successful WWE Superstars who has been highly celebrated by WWE fans all over the world. He is a 16 time World Champion and is considered as the GOAT of the wrestling industry.

Cena on his recent appearance at WWE Money in the Bank 2024 PLE, officially announced his retirement and the actual retirement timeline. Cena revealed that he would be working on the first episode of Raw on Netflix, Royal Rumble 2025, Elimination Chamber 2025 and WrestleMania 41.

He made it clear that WrestleMania 41 will be his last in-ring match. Since Cena opened up on his retirement timeline, there has been a number of speculations & rumors on who could be his opponent(s) on the retirement tour. At this stage, a backstage report revealed a potential opponent for his retirement tour.

John Cena vs Gunther

According to WRKD Wrestling’s report on X, WWE has been planning for John Cena vs Gunther match at a marquee PLE as a part of Cena’s retirement tour.

WRKD Wrestling on X wrote, “John Cena vs. Gunther is currently penned in as a marquee PLE match for Cena’s retirement tour.”

Gunther is all set to face Damian Priest for the World Heavyweight Championship at the 2024 SummerSlam PLE. Gunther is the clear favorite to win the championship and the dominating reign he had with the Intercontinental Championship makes a lot of them believe that he will not lose the title in the foreseeable future.

Considering the reports, rumors and speculations, Cena is likely to work on the Raw brand during his retirement tour and will be battling against Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship, in a mission to break the record for the most world championship wins in history.

However, to have this potential championship match in future, Gunther should win the World Heavyweight Championship at the 2024 SummerSlam PLE this Saturday (August 03, 2024) at the Cleveland Browns Stadium in Cleveland, Ohio, United States.
