The 16-time WWE World Champion turned heel and attacked Cody Rhodes.

After failing to win the 2025 men’s Royal Rumble match, John Cena announced his entry into the men’s Elimination Chamber match and vowed to win the match to headline the final WrestleMania of his career.

On March 1, John Cena competed in the Chamber match, outlasting the competition and ultimately submitting CM Punk with the STF to secure the victory and earn a spot at WrestleMania 41. Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes came out after the match to congratulate Cena.

However, the mood changed when The Rock arrived with hip-hop star Travis Scott and asked Cody for an answer to his proposal. Rhodes’ response was a firm no, and initially, Cena seemed to approve as he laughed and embraced the champ, but things took a dark turn as The Rock signaled the cutthroat gesture and the expression on Cena’s face shifted.

What followed is now fully engraved in fans’ minds as Cena landed a vicious low blow followed by a brutal and bloody beatdown of the Undisputed Champion by Cena as The Rock and Scott joined in. The moment went viral as it was the first time the G.O.A.T. of pro wrestling turned heel in his WWE career.

Guinness World Records recognised John Cena as having the longest WWE face run

Following the shocking and historic heel turn, Guinness World Records has now acknowledged an unlikely record for the 16-time WWE World Champion.

Cena’s historic heel turn has earned him a new Guinness World Records title: “Longest WWE Face Run Before Turning Heel.” This recent achievement adds to his existing record with the Make-A-Wish Foundation, where he holds the title for granting the most wishes. GWR also recognized Cena as one of the greatest in WWE history.

“Whether seen as the heroic figure of the “Never Give Up” mantra or a more complex figure wrestling with his place in the world, Cena’s legacy as the longest-serving WWE face, combined with his ability to turn heel and continue captivating audiences, cements his place as one of the greatest in WWE history.

His journey serves as a testament to the power of reinvention, and perhaps more than anything else, the lasting connection he has made with his fans.”

With the win, Cena is now slated to battle the Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes at the 41st edition of WrestleMania PLE, as he looks to break the tie with Ric Flair and become the 17-time WWE World Champion before hanging up his wrestling boots.

The 41st edition of WrestleMania is scheduled to take place over two nights on April 19 and 20, 2025. The massive event will take place at Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada, USA.
