The 16-time WWE World Champion will retire at the end of 2025
16-time WWE World Champion John Cena recently made his return on the debut show of Monday Night Raw on Netflix to kick off his farewell tour. During his appearance, he also announced his entry into the 2025 Royal Rumble PLE.
Cena will wrestle full-time this year and will take part in the final WrestleMania of his WWE career. The 16-time WWE World Champion will hang up his wrestling boots at the end of the year.
In a recent conversation with Collider, Cena opened up potential last match in the Stamford-based promotion and his desires for the final match. The former World champion also revealed whether the final matchâs booking was in his control.
âI think whatever is best for both the audience and the business should happen in my last match, whatever that is. That is beyond my control. It always has been. I donât own the company, so I donât steer the ship in that direction, and I never have used any sort of influence to do that,â Cena stated.
The 16-time World Champion revealed that he has never used his influence to âsteer the shipâ in the WWE and he wants whatever is best for the fans and the business.
John Cena addresses his staggering WWE winning percentage
During his conversation, the former World Champion also spoke about his high win percentage. Cena revealed that keeping his losses scarce during his peak years was a deliberate strategy.
âOne of the biggest hang-ups in the middle portion of my career was that, spoiler alert, John wins. What people donât understand is, I think now, maybe, as we begin to reflect back here on this last run of like, âHey, man, I was in it for the long haul.ââ Cena revealed.
The former World Champion also explained how the rarity of his losses made it more impactful when the losses happened.
âThe way you make those losses impactful is sometimes youâve got to win, and sometimes youâve got to win a lot. Any time you can pass energy on to somebody, thatâs kind of the life cycle of the business. You come in an unknown and, hopefully, you get the flywheel spinning, you create all this energy on your way out, you pay it forward, you pass it off,â the former World Champion explained
John Cena will enter the 2025 Royal Rumble in Indianapolis in his quest to break the tie with Ric Flair and become the 17-time WWE World Champion.
