WWE veteran John Cena says that his pro-wrestling career started “By Accident”
John Cena is one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time who has been in WWE for more than two decades. The GOAT has a great history with WWE and has been involved in some of the important and monumental events of the company. Cena is the default face of the company throughout his run and always been in a high-profile championship spotlight.
He is a 16 time World Champion, 5 time United States Champion, 4 time Tag Team Champion, 2 time Royal Rumble winner, 1 time Money in the Bank winner and 10 time Slammy Award winner. Having a great legacy in professional wrestling, Cena opened up on how he came into professional wrestling in a recent interview.
How did John Cena come into pro-wrestling?
John Cena recently appeared for an interview on Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard, where the 16 time champion was asked about how he made his way into professional wrestling. To which Cena replied that it was an accident. Cena shared his past saying, one of his friends, Mark Bell and his brother Chris were training to be wrestlers in Orange County. Where they asked him if he could do that. Cena after seeing the ring, he felt like he could do that.
John Cena says,
“By Accident. One of my friends, Mark Bell, and his brother Chris — they were like, ‘Hey, we’re training to be wrestlers in Orange County. Would you do that?’ As soon as I saw a ring, I was like, ‘Okay, this is going to be the thing that keeps me here.’”
John Cena in a previous interview with Kevin Hart on Hart To Heart shared more details about his journey into the world of professional wrestling.
Cena said,
“[When Cena was about to join the military] a buddy of mine says ‘yo you know we trained to be wrestlers over in Orange County, you ever thought about going down?’ I was like m********* there’s a school? We can do this? Yes of course. We went to a place called LA Boxing in Orange County. I remember pulling up and seeing the ring through the window. I saw it and I was like this is what I’m going to do.
It wasn’t like I’m going to be The Rock. I was like I’m going to exist out here. Do this as long as I can as a weekend hobby and never thought it would be anything. So like it happened by accident.”
