John Cena teases big plans for WWE SmackDown & urges fans to tune in to Night of Champions 2025

The 17-time World Champion delivered an iconic promo on SmackDown!

Undisputed WWE Champion John Cena caused ripples in the pro wrestling community last Friday when he took out CM Punk in the final moments of the June 20 episode of Friday Night SmackDown and then delivered a pipebomb promo of his own.

Cena was battling Ron ‘R-Truth’ Killings in the main event of the show, which was a rematch from their previous clash in May at Saturday Night’s Main Event. However, when Cena started to struggle against Truth, he decided to just grab the title and leave.

Truth went after him, but the Champion nailed him with the title, ending the match in disqualification. Cena was looking to hit Truth the second time when CM Punk arrived, sparking a brawl between the two. Cena got the better of the exchange as he landed a low blow, hitting Punk with the title twice before slamming him through the table.

As mentioned, Cena then, much like CM Punk, delivered his own version of a “pipebomb” promo, literally turning the tables. While the style was similar, references were adjusted to fit Cena’s own perspective.

John Cena will defend the Undisputed title against CM Punk this Saturday

John Cena is set to defend the Undisputed WWE title against CM Punk at Night of Champions on June 28 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The two stars have been at each other’s throats, and things are likely going to turn ugly as the Champion himself hinted during a recent appearance.

Cena made an appearance during the WWE SummerSlam Kickoff event, which was held on Saturday, June 21, at the Javits Center in New York. The Champion, in his closing comments on the show, said he hoped the fans liked SmackDown because they are planning something big for the next show. He also encouraged fans to watch Night of Champions.

“If you guys are digging what we’re doing on television, I hope you watch Night of Champions because it’s gonna be f***n great. I hope you like SmackDown, hope you like the next SmackDown because we’re cooking up something awesome for you.”

Dubbed as “the final chapter in one of WWE‘s greatest rivalries,” the clash and the build-up between the two is likely going to pick up even more pace on the go-home show of SmackDown this week, as Punk is definitely going to fire back after Cena’s promo this week.
