The World Heavyweight Championship is one of the most popular primary professional wrestling championships of WWE. It is considered the World Champion equivalent to the WWE Championship and Universal Championship. WWE first brought this title under the name WWWF World Heavyweight Championship in 1963 and was used under a number of names.
In 2002, the original version of the World Heavyweight Championship was introduced and was active until 2013. It then got unified and the title was retired. In 2023, WWE brought the title back, similar to the original version. The new version of the title has a lot of key details in the title. Here are the hidden key details on the World Heavyweight Championship belt.
World Heavyweight Championship Key Details
Eagle
The Eagle, which is sculpted on the top of the golden plate represents the legendary Winged Eagle World Heavyweight Championship title. The legendary title was active from 1988 to 1998 when the company was on the rise. A number of legendary wrestlers such as Hulk Hogan, “Macho Man” Randy Savage, Shawn Michaels, Bret “The Hitman” Hart, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin and The Ultimate Warrior.
Three Lions
The Three Lions in the World Championship represent McMahon’s family crest. The three lions represent Ferociousness, Bravery & Valour. To honor their family’s legacy, WWE has designed three lions in the title. Two lions were placed on either side of the WWE symbol and one was placed below the golden plate.
Crown
A Crown is placed on top of the championship title. This represents Bruno Sammartino’s crown title (WWWF World Heavyweight Championship). If you don’t know who Bruno Sammartino is, he is the longest reigning World Champion, who held the title for 2,803 days in a single reign from 1963 to 1971. WWE to honor Sammartino has placed the crown symbol on the top of the golden plate.
60 Diamonds
In the current World Heavyweight Championship, WWE has implanted a total of sixty small diamonds. These sixty diamonds are used to signify 60 years of WWE. In 1963 WWE split its alliance from NWA and started the WWWF. To represent the honor, WWE introduced the title exactly 60 years later with the 60 diamonds.
Ring Rope
The outer border of the main golden plate is designed like a ring rope to represent the wrestling ring. The ring rope surrounds the entire main golden plate and also the side plates, making it a proper pro-wrestling title.
