Five last-minute explosive additions to elevate WWE WrestleMania 42 card

The 42nd edition of WrestleMania is less than two weeks away.

The 42nd edition of  WrestleMania is now less than a few days away, and WWE has been struggling with the build-up as well as ticket sales. The show will take place as a two-night event on April 18 and 19 at Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada. 

However, controversial choices, poor storylines, and too much celebrity involvement, and banking on viral moments instead of actual storylines have hampered the hype for the show.

Here we will take a look at the top five last-minute explosive additions to the card, which will help elevate the event and build excitement among WWE fans.

5. Asuka vs Iyo Sky

As per reports, a total of 14 matches have been planned for WrestleMania; of these 14, 12 have already been announced. Among the matches that are anticipated to be announced is a grudge match between Iyo Sky and Asuka.

The two have a long history and a fallout last year; WWE has also been teasing a potential turn for Kairi Sane. Asuka and Iyo are two of the best in-ring workers and will definitely help elevate the show with a great match. Although the build has been lacking, an outstanding match can shift the focus of fans.

4. The Vision & IShowSpeed vs The Usos & LA Knight

The second match that is being rumored for the show involves The Usos (Jimmy & Jey Uso) and LA Knight against The Vision (Logan Paul & Austin Theory) and IShowSpeed.

WWE has already teased this match during the last week when Speed accidentally knocked out Knight, helping Logan and Thoery defeat Usos and capture the World Tag Team titles. Knight then crashed Speed’s livestream and attacked him, further building the feud.

While the star’s involvement could have been utilized better in different matches and feuds, WWE at least can announce the match this Monday without delay, and Speed might surprise fans with his ability in the ring.

3. Carmelo Hayes’ addition

Carmelo Hayes losing the United States title to Sami Zayn robbed fans of a potential highlight match between him and Ilja Dragunov at the ‘Grandest Stage.’ Instead, WWE is looking to put Trick Williams over in the match, and a rumored double turn might also be planned for the show.

The exclusion of Hayes has not sit well with fans after all he has done to elevate the title, and fans have already turned on Sami. WWE can opt to add Hayes to the match, making it a triple-threat.

Hayes already shares a long history with Williams from NXT, which could help elevate the match, while his recent run of standout performances on SmackDown makes his inclusion a fitting payoff.

2. Giulia vs Tiffany Stratton

There were reports of a potential title defense for the Women’s US Champion, Giulia, against Tiffany Stratton and Jordynne Grace, the latter being dropped from the plans due to injury.

WWE can still deliver the Giulia vs Stratton showdown, as the two have been feuding on SmackDown, and it would also address Stratton’s surprising absence from the card despite being the top of the division, holding the Women’s title just last year.

The addition of the match will also mark the first time the Women’s US title will be defended on a Premium Live Event (PLE) since its inception in December 2024. A stat that shows how thought-out the Championship was.

1. Raising the stakes

The addition of Pat McAfee in the Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes storyline has made many fans voice their disappointment, with some even calling for its removal as the main event of Night 1. While Rhodes’ promo managed to generate some buzz, WWE can further create hype for the match by raising the stakes.

The promotion has used stipulations for major feuds, and can use the same in the feud between Orton and Rhodes. The promotion also needs to focus more on Rhodes and Orton’s history, as they don’t really need McAfee and have enough history to sell the match. A no disqualification or a steel cage match, among other can help elevate the match and raise the stakes for the main event showdown.
