Y2J’s AEW contract is set to expire very soon.

Chris Jericho’s future in pro wrestling has become one of the most talked-about topics of the year, as a return to WWE looks very close.

With his contract situation approaching a crucial point, Jericho has finally offered some clarity, though only just enough to keep fans guessing.

During an appearance on The Tim Weisberg Show on WBSM 1420AM, Chris Jericho was asked directly what his next move might be. His answer, fittingly enigmatic, did little to calm the speculation.

“You never know. I’m not done yet. Still figuring out everything and we’ll see where I end up. I’m pretty sure you’ll see me in 2026 in a wrestling ring somewhere,” he said.

Chris Jericho is currently on a long hiatus

Chris Jericho has not wrestled in AEW since April, when he dropped the ROH World Championship to Bandido at AEW Dynasty.

His final appearance came days later, where he snapped during his “TV Time” segment, destroyed the set, and told Bryan Keith and Big Bill he wouldn’t return until they proved themselves as winners. For many, that moment felt like the closing chapter of his AEW run. However, AEW President Tony Khan insists the door remains wide open.

“Chris is always a welcome, big part of AEW. We’d always want to have him here. I absolutely am so grateful to Chris Jericho for everything he’s done,” Khan said on Busted Open Radio.

Given Jericho’s role as the company’s first-ever World Champion and one of its most important foundational names, AEW undoubtedly wants to keep him close.

Jericho has also used his extended downtime to get into remarkable physical condition, something fans have noticed on social media. If AEW is willing to give him more than a limited “retirement schedule,” that could tip the scales in their favor.

WWE eyeing a 2026 retirement tour for Y2J

Despite their history, WWE is also positioned as a major contender for Jericho’s signature. According to the Wrestling Observer, several within WWE expect him to sign once his AEW deal expires, with the company reportedly interested in a John Cena-style retirement tour in 2026.

Whether Jericho feels ready for that final chapter remains unknown. If he believes there’s still plenty left in the tank, he may choose a more demanding schedule than WWE is likely to offer. At 55, he remains one of the hottest potential free agents, and both major promotions appear prepared to make strong bids.

For now, Chris Jericho simply isn’t ready to reveal his hand. His future remains undecided and that only fuels the anticipation.

Is Chris Jericho confirmed to return to WWE?

No. WWE is reportedly interested, but Jericho has not committed to signing, stating he is “still figuring out everything.”

Could Jericho return to AEW instead?

Yes. Tony Khan has publicly stated Jericho is “always a welcome, big part of AEW,” meaning the company wants him back.
