Rhea Ripley got her shoulder injured early
At SummerSlam, Rhea Ripley wished to start her vengeance tour against Women’s World Champion Liv Morgan. After The Nightmare hurt Morgan and sidelined her for over a year, Morgan returned dramatically in 2024 with her “Liv Morgan Revenge Tour.”
Her first stop involved wounding Ripley and compelling Mami to give up her WWE Women’s World Title. With Ripley out of the picture, Morgan defeated Becky Lynch to capture the Women’s World Title before focusing on “Dirty” Dominik Mysterio and the rest of The Judgment Day.
Liv Morgan retains but Rhea Ripley loses more than just the title
The Women’s World Championship match at SummerSlam 2024 between Rhea Ripley and Liv Morgan was an intense and dramatic encounter, filled with high-stakes moments and physicality. As the match commenced, Ripley found herself facing her old rival Morgan, who had notched a victory against her 26 months prior.
The mind games began early, with Morgan repeatedly dodging Ripley’s attempts to engage, slipping out of the ring and taunting the challenger. Ripley’s frustration was evident, and it became clear that Morgan was playing a strategic game to unsettle Ripley. Once they finally engaged, Ripley showcased her power with a series of short-arm clotheslines and a suplex, sending Morgan crashing to the outside.
Ripley’s dominance continued as she brutalized Morgan outside the ring, much to the delight of her ally, Dominik Mysterio. However, Morgan seized an opening by targeting Ripley’s recently injured shoulder, shoving it into the ring post and following up with a big boot. With Ripley in visible pain, the referee checked on her, but Ripley refused to quit.
Morgan capitalized on Ripley’s injury, stomping and wrenching her arm, and applying an armbar to further damage the shoulder. Despite her resilience, Ripley found herself on the defensive as Morgan executed a codebreaker on the injured shoulder. However, Ripley rallied with a big boot to Morgan’s face and a display of incredible toughness by slamming her shoulder into the commentary table to reset it.
The momentum shifted as Ripley unleashed a flurry of forearms, kicks, and a dropkick, gaining a near fall. Yet, the shoulder injury hampered Ripley’s performance. In a pivotal moment, Morgan attempted to use a steel chair, but Ripley thwarted her and hit the Riptide. As Ripley prepared to use the chair, Dominik intervened, warning her against disqualification.
Morgan seized the opportunity, hitting Ripley with the Oblivion, but Ripley kicked out. The match’s climax came when Dominik distracted the referee, allowing Morgan to hit the Oblivion onto the steel chair for the pinfall victory. The post-match scene saw Dominik helping Morgan to her feet and sharing a kiss, while Ripley watched in fury. Commentator Pat McAfee aptly labelled Dominik a “piece of shit,” capturing the betrayal and drama that unfolded.
In a bout filled with strategic manoeuvres, emotional highs, and brutal physicality, Liv Morgan retained her Women’s World Championship, leaving Rhea Ripley with a bitter defeat and a burning desire for revenge.
