Top five longest reigning WWE NXT North American champions of all time

The NXT North American title has cemented its legacy as an important championship in the company.
WWE NXT has produced some of the most talented athletes that have gone on to become top-tier WWE superstars. However, an important part in the journey of some of those individuals has been winning the NXT North American Championship.
Introduced in 2018, the championship was introduced as a secondary title in the developmental territory. Much like the main roster titles, the North American title became a stepping stone for NXT stars to ascend to the next level in their wrestling journeys. Here is a look at the top five longest-reigning WWE NXT North American Champions of all time:
5. Carmelo Hayes (171 days)
The rise of Carmelo Hayes has been widely renowned among WWE fans with his victory for the North American title. Hayes cashed in his Breakout tournament contract against Swerve Strickland in 2021 to win the title for the first time and went on to hold it for 171 days. Furthermore, he even unified his title with the NXT Cruiserweight Championship, making it an important reign in NXT.

4. Keith Lee (181 days)
Keith Lee’s impressive size, strength and debut in NXT made him a top prospect. He won the NXT North American title from Roderick Strong in 2020. Lee took down many opponents during his reign and even defeated NXT Champion Adam Cole to become the holder of both titles at the same time. Following that victory, Lee vacated the North American title, setting his reign at 181 days.
3. Velveteen Dream (209 days)
Despite being a controversial figure, Velveteen Dream has etched his name in the list of the longest-reigning NXT North American Champions. Dream won the title from Johnny Gargano in 2019 and is credited as a successful title holder in NXT. He went on to hold the title for 209 days before dropping the title to Roderick Strong.

2. Wes Lee (269 days)
Wes Lee had impressed the NXT audience with his exceptional in-ring acumen and beloved personality. His popularity earned him a crack at the NXT North American title in a five-man ladder match in 2022 after Solo Sikoa vacated the title. Lee outlasted the field and won the title in spectacular fashion. He would hold the title for an impressive 269 days before his reign was ended by “Dirty” Dominik Mysterio.”
1. Oba Femi (272 days)
One of the most dominant and hard-hitting NXT North American Champions in history has to be Oba Femi. He won the title from Dragon Lee at NXT Deadline 2023. Using his raw power and strength, he dominated all opponents who stepped up to him and held the title for 272 days. With his reign, he cemented his status as the longest-reigning NXT North American Champion of all time.
