There have been many legendary families in the pro-wrestling business
Professional wrestling, as we know it today, was not always this way. It has been built on the backs of several creative and hardworking individuals who have given their blood, sweat, and tears to this business to put professional wrestling on the map as it is today.
While it’s impossible to acknowledge all of them in a single article, some individuals have more in common than just a love for wrestling – they share the same blood running through their veins.
Although wrestling might not be the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the term “family business,” it has been that way for a while now, especially when it comes to the WWE.
For instance, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Randy Orton, two of the greatest to ever do it, are both third-generation superstars, meaning their fathers and grandfathers also served as wrestlers in the business before they took over to carry forward their family’s legacy.
This is something that is still happening in the WWE, as Rey Mysterio is on the verge of retirement, and his son, Dominik, has already established himself as one of the biggest heels in the company.
There are several noteworthy legendary families in wrestling, but let’s take a look at the top 5 greatest wrestling families of all time in WWE.
The Rhodes Family
Cody Rhodes’ theme song, “Kingdom,” starts with the line, “Wrestling has more than one Royal Family.” It’s essential to acknowledge them on this list because they have rightfully earned their place in the history books with their contributions spanning almost three generations.
Be it, Dusty Rhodes, back in the day as NWA Champion or Goldust in the Attitude Era making us roll on the floor laughing, and still going strong today in AEW as Dustin Rhodes in a much more serious role, or “The American Nightmare” Cody himself, who is the new face of our company and the current Undisputed WWE champion with two successive Royal Rumble wins and three WrestleMania main events under his belt. It would be safe to say, in Cody’s words, that the contributions of the Rhodes family in the world of professional wrestling are “Undeniable”.
The Guerrero Family
The Guerrero Family is another family that bleeds professional wrestling. When you’re born into the Guerrero family, you’re expected to be a professional wrestler, and each of the sons of the legendary Mexican wrestler Gory Guerrero would live up to that expectation, becoming successful professional wrestlers in their own right.
The most successful one would be his youngest son, Eddie Guerrero, who went on to become the first in their family to become WWE Champion. He is still remembered to this day for his lovable antics and memorable contributions to the world of wrestling.
The Hart Family
The Hart Family has had a significant impact on Canadian wrestling. It all started when Stu Hart fulfilled his dream by starting Calgary’s Stampede Wrestling in 1948, where he would train several wrestlers who would eventually become successful WWE superstars in the future.
Owen Hart, Neidhart, and Davey Boy Smith would go on to carry forward the family’s legacy in the wrestling business for an entire era, while the most successful among them all, Bret Hart, would go on to be acknowledged as one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time, also becoming a multiple-time world champion in the process.
The Anoa’i Family
The Anoa’i Family is perhaps the most influential and respected in the wrestling business today. If anyone remembers the WrestleMania 40 Kickoff Show, which created headlines because The Rock would slap the taste out of Cody Rhodes’ mouth, another important thing that happened during the event was that the entire Anoa’i family tree was shown, showcasing how much they have contributed over the years to taking WWE to the global spectacle that it is today.
With second, third, and even fourth-generation superstars in WWE, it’s quite a challenge to mention significant moments in the WWE that didn’t include a member from The Anoa’i Bloodline. Roman Reigns, the face of the company in the last decade, represents their bloodline.
The Rock is the most bankable superstar in the whole world. He represents The Anoa’i bloodline as one of the, if not the greatest, tag teams to ever do it. The Usos, also represent The Anoa’i bloodline. Solo Sikoa, as well comes from the same family. So, it would be safe to say that The Anoa’i Family is the most influential and respected in the wrestling business today.
The McMahon Family
The McMahon Family is the most dominant promoter in wrestling history, and they helped grow the business of professional wrestling to points that were never thought to be possible. Jess McMahon started off as a wrestling promoter, and upon his death, Vince McMahon Sr. would take over and create the WWF, which would later be known as WWE.
Upon his death, Vince McMahon Jr. would take over from him, and even though Vince McMahon is not particularly celebrated among fans today after the news became public regarding his rumored involvement in certain scandals, he is still respected by every professional wrestling fan, as despite what kind of a human he is in person, professional wrestling would never have seen the heights that it has seen if it wasn’t for him.
The ownership of WWE is no longer under the McMahon family banner, as TKO Group Holdings owns it. However, his son-in-law and Stephanie McMahon’s husband, the legendary Triple H, now runs WWE as Head of Creative, and WWE is prospering to heights never seen before under his leadership.
