The former Divas Champion returned for the first time since 2022.
The third match of Night 1 of WrestleMania 42 featured a massive surprise as Paige, fka Saraya, made her highly-awaited return. Reports already confirmed her planned return a day earlier, and WWE kept the surprise until the match.
This was her first WWE appearance since 2022, when she departed WWE and signed with AEW. It was also her first in-ring appearance in WWE since December 2017.
Nikki Bella failed to get medical clearance
Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss walked out first, followed by Bayley and Lyra Valkyria. The Women’s Tag Team Champion The Irresistible Forces (Nia Jax & Lash Legend) walked out next, followed by the Bella Twins (Nikki & Brie Bella).
Nikki walked out with the crutches and a mic in her hand. She informed fans that she failed to get medical clearance and then informed the fans that she called in an old friend, who turned out to be the former Divas Champion, Page.
Fans erupted in cheers as the former Divas Champion joined Brie and walked out to the ring to kick off the match. The former Divas Champion even had a showdown with Charlotte Flair during the match, before the two continued the offense.
Flair and Bliss joined forces to finish the match, when Nikki Bella interfered, taking out Flair and whipping her with the crutches as Paige countered Twister Bliss’ attempt from Alexa. Fans continued to chant as Paige delivered Rampage to pin Alexa Bliss and capture the WWE Women’s Tag Team titles.
The return of the former Divas Champion has now opened the door for multiple incredible matches and also the opportunity to run back old classics. AJ Lee and Paige back in WWE was likely not anticipated, but that’s why you never say never in pro wrestling.
