‘The OTC’ made his return at WWE SummerSlam 2024

WWE superstar Roman Reigns returned to Friday Night Smackdown for the first time since losing the Universal Championship to Cody Rhodes at Wrestlemania 40, cementing a legendary face turn that would have been unthinkable even six months ago, and laying the groundwork for the next act of the company’s long-term storytelling.

After firing the first shots in the simmering Bloodline Civil War at Summerslam the previous Saturday, Reigns made his highly anticipated return to WWE programming in a main event segment in which he met his former enforcer Solo Sikoa’s new, more dangerous incarnation of the legendary faction.

But, the interesting thing is Roman Reigns was spotted backstage at WWE SummerSlam with none other than his advocate Paul Heyman. But, it is not known why didn’t Paul Heyman make his return and why exactly he has limited himself to just backstage.

At the press conference following Wrestlemania 39, Paul Heyman stated that the Bloodline Saga was only in its “third inning.” Over a year later, what may be the story’s last act begins, as a heroic Roman Reigns strives to extinguish the monster he unleashed on the WWE.

In the run-up to his Smackdown comeback, the idea of a third fight with current champion Cody Rhodes was mentioned, albeit that match is unlikely to take place until Wrestlemania 41, if not later.

For the time being, Rhodes’ next defense will be against his buddy Kevin Owens at Bash in Berlin; fans may expect interference from Solo’s Bloodline during the match, as both combatants will continue to play important parts in the current drama.

Many believe that the next major segment in the Bloodline Civil War will take place at this year’s Survivor Series: War Games, with the unthinkable happening like Reigns joining up with Rhodes to take on Solo Sikoa’s Bloodline.
