Goldberg teased his WWE return at Bad Blood 2024

Goldberg has long expressed his desire to compete in a retirement match in WWE. His wish may not have been granted for some reason or the other until now, but it feels like we might get to see the former world champion in action with the Stamford-based promotion one last time.

The only thing that needs deciding is who he will face. Join us now as we look at the top five superstars WWE can plan for Goldberg for his final match-up.

5. Roman Reigns

Roman Reigns has emerged as a top star for WWE over the years, and it’ll be fascinating to see him rub shoulders with Goldberg. The former WCW wrestler was a force to be reckoned with during his hay days, and the same thing could be said about the Original Tribal Chief.

Additionally, if the Stamford-based promotion does decide to pit these grapplers against each other, it’ll give Reigns finally something else to work on other than the long-drawn Bloodline saga. The family storyline has been the highlight for the company in recent years, but it does feel like it is high time for the Anoa’i family members to move on from it.

4. CM Punk

CM Punk has never been shy from working with performers from yesteryears, and Goldberg would be no different. This combination, though, seems unusual but could work wonders between the ropes.

Both the former WCW world champion and The Best in The World possess tremendous ring acumen, and it’ll be a treat for the fans to witness this epic battle of generations.

3. John Cena

John Cena could be an apt choice for WWE when choosing Goldberg’s last opponent. Firstly, the Cenation Leader is set to embark on his retirement tour in 2025. Secondly, this clash would give the audience a chance to witness their dream match unfold right before their eyes.

Lastly, it would be fitting to see these two veterans go face-to-face at the fag end of their careers. Bill’s second stint in WWE came in 2016, at which point Cena was working on a lighter schedule.

There’s no doubt that the thought of putting both of them against each other would have crossed in the wrestling juggernaut’s creative minds. However, for some reason, it could not materialize in the past. All the more reason for the promotion to book this encounter this time round.

2. Gunther

Gunther appears to be one of the topmost contenders to come up against Goldberg. His mocking of the iconic wrestler at the Bad Blood PLE is a reason enough for booking this match.

The 57-year-old isn’t one to back out from a fight, and judging by his angered response in the All-State Arena, it is highly plausible that he goes after the current world champion. WWE could portray this potential encounter as a battle between the company’s past and its present.

Moreover, having these two enter into a feud could help the Austrian get over with the fans even more so than before. Granted, Bill is way past his prime at this stage of his career, but the Ring General’s ability to work his magic with just about anyone could come in handy. If this tussle does become official, Goldberg is in for one hell of a retirement match.

1. The Rock

If you had told any WWE fan in 2003, when The Rock and Goldberg clashed at the 2003 Backlash event, that a rematch between the two grapplers could be possible after two decades, they would’ve laughed it off.

But fate had something else planned, as another battle between the two legends is perfectly possible in the current scenario. The two might be at the twilight of their wrestling journey, but The Great One displayed at WrestleMania XL that he’s still got it.

When it comes to Bill, the prospect of having his last dance against one of his old adversaries could encourage him to go deep in his locker and bring out his best performance one last time. If Goldberg against The Rock becomes a reality, it’ll be like sitting in a time machine for the fans as they would surely travel back in time.

After giving so many years of his life to the professional wrestling industry, Goldberg deserves a proper farewell. Judging by his surprise appearance at the Bad Blood PLE, it seems the Triple H regime has finally decided to give the iconic wrestler his due. What remains to be seen is who will the former WCW grappler come up against. Surely, someone from this list!
