Randy Orton vs Gunther for the world title is set for Bash in Berlin 2024
Gunther defeated Randy Orton in a controversial way to win the King of the Ring Tournament and rightfully claimed the World Championship match at SummerSlam 2024.
The Ring General faced Damian Priest at SummerSlam for the World Heavyweight Championship and defeated him with the assist from Finn Balor to become the World Champion for the first time in WWE.
The Ring General while having his championship celebration, Randy Orton confronted him recalling what happened on SummerSlam and claimed a rematch, but this time for the world title. Gunther agreed to his challenge and the match was officially confirmed for Bash in Berlin on August 31, 2024, in Berlin, Germany. As the match is just a week away, here is a hot takeaway on why Randy Orton should dethrone Gunther for the World title.
Gunther hasn’t learned from past mistakes
Gunther is one of the most dominant and toughest WWE stars, who has dominated several opponents in his path. However, The Ring General in recent times has been focusing on humiliating his opponents rather than concentrating on the prize. This was one of the reasons for his Intercontinental Championship loss to Sami Zayn at WrestleMania 40.
However, he didn’t learn from his past mistakes and is still focusing on humiliating his opponents and being distracted by external things, which gives his opponent an advantage over him. On the August 12, 2024 episode of Raw, Gunther turned his attention to Drew McIntyre, which made Orton perform an RKO on him.
During The Ring General’s Intercontinental title reign, he developed no backstory with his rivals and had straight matches with clean and dominant fights. His only focus was on the match and he had no backstory to worry about. However, he now has a backstory with Orton to worry about and has some past mistakes to worry about.
All this puts The Ring General in a position, that he is one RKO away from getting dethroned. After the loss, he could learn from his mistakes with some non-title rivalries. In the same way, he could develop a big backstory and coming back to recapture the world title could make his title reign more justifying.
On the other hand, Orton is a fourteen-time world champion, who is just two world title wins away from reaching John Cena’s record. Orton dethroning Gunther could make him a 15-time world champion. In the same way, if he loses the title sooner or later, he could challenge Cody Rhodes for the WWE title and winning it could make him the 16-time champion, equalling Cena’s record.
Since Orton is considered one of the potential stars to end Cena’s career, both fighting to become the 17-time champion could be a show of greatness and could be the best farewell tour for Cena.
