On the July 22, 2024, episode of Raw, Bron Breakker fought Ilja Dragunov to find out who would be Sami Zayn’s opponent at WWE SummerSlam 2024 for the Intercontinental Championship. Bron won the match by referee stoppage, as Dragunov was unable to compete after Breakker speared Dragunov outside the ring, where Dragunov bumped his head on the hard part of the apron.

With this win, Bron Breakker became the rightful challenger for Sami Zayn’s Intercontinental Championship at SummerSlam 2024. This is a championship rematch for Breakker after his failed attempt at Money in the Bank PLE, however this could be his time to rewrite things.

Defeating a world champion worthy champion at the biggest stage could automatically elevate his career in the main roster and could set the steps for becoming the future world champion in the company.
