CM Punk & Drew McIntyre seem to have their last clash at WWE Bad Blood 2024

The highly anticipated Hell In A Cell match between CM Punk and Drew McIntyre is just around the corner, scheduled to take place at Bad Blood on October 5, 2024.

This match is being advertised as the final showdown in their grudge rivalry, which has been ongoing for almost nine months.

Given the intensity and longevity of their feud, it’s only fitting that this match takes center stage, ahead of the tag team match between Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns vs. Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu which many are saying will actually headline the show.

Both CM Punk and Drew McIntyre have been locked in a heated rivalry, with each trying to one-up the other in a battle of wits, strength, and endurance.

What started as subtle roasting and digs has quickly escalated into one of the most intense and physical rivalries in the WWE, with blood, sweat, tears, and pain being shed by both competitors.

Emotions are running high, and the last two promos by CM Punk and Drew McIntyre have been nothing short of intense. Fans are divided on who should emerge victorious, and so are we. However, today we’re going to explore five reasons why CM Punk needs to win this match more than Drew McIntyre.

Drew McIntyre Can Take This Loss

Firstly, Drew McIntyre can take this loss. CM Punk, on the other hand, doesn’t have many years left in the ring. With Drew McIntyre likely to continue competing for the next decade, strong and swift, Punk’s time is limited. He’s getting older and more prone to injuries, and this is not the same 2011

“Pipebomb” Punk we’re talking about. The WWE needs to capitalize on his remaining time and build him up as a formidable threat to Gunther’s championship reign or his dream match against Seth Rollins. A loss to Drew McIntyre, who has practically bullied and insulted his family, would greatly hurt his legitimacy.

A Legit threat to Gunther

A win for CM Punk is also necessary to build him up as a legitimate threat to Gunther’s title reign. Gunther’s reign until now has been nothing short of perfect, with victories over Randy Orton at Bash in Berlin and could cement his reign after seemingly beating Sami Zayn at WWE Bad Blood.

These wins are crucial, as they were the only two competitors Gunther couldn’t beat clean before SummerSlam. If the WWE is building Gunther as a dominant champion, his challenger needs to be equally dominant to create an unpredictable product.

CM Punk has already challenged Gunther after his victory over Drew McIntyre at Bash in Berlin, and this is rumored to be the match at Survivor Series. If that’s the case, then Punk cannot afford to lose at Bad Blood and still receive a title shot next month.

Ending the rivalry

A win for CM Punk would also bring an end to this rivalry. While it’s not getting stale or boring just yet, dragging it out for too long might make it so.

We’ve already seen two excellent matches so far, and the buildup started before last year’s WrestleMania. This has been a long and engaging rivalry, but Bad Blood would be a good time to bring it to a close.

Punk can do that by defeating the Scottish Psychopath clean at Bad Blood and challenging Gunther in his quest for the World Heavyweight Championship.

The dream match between Drew McIntyre and Wade Barrett

Again, a loss for Drew McIntyre could set up a dream match between him and Wade Barrett. While CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre is a dream match in its own right, we’ve already seen two parts of it, and the final chapter is set to unfold at Bad Blood.

However, what many people are sleeping on is how the WWE has been subtly planting the seeds for a Wade Barrett in-ring return against his longtime friend Drew McIntyre. Drew is doing his career-best work right now, and he could sell this rivalry if the WWE builds it correctly.

One possible scenario is that after losing to Punk, Wade Barrett might come to console Drew McIntyre, only for the Scottish Psychopath to attack him ferociously. This could lead to Wade Barrett making an in-ring return soon, with a solid storyline, and potentially even retiring at the hands of McIntyre at next year’s WrestleMania.

CM Punk needs to look credible against Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 41

Lastly, CM Punk needs to look legit against Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 41. The initially planned main event for the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 40 was CM Punk vs Seth Rollins.

However, due to Punk’s injury, the plans had to be altered. This time around, if both competitors manage to stay fit, they’ll have to sell this rivalry without the World Heavyweight Championship, which will be held by Gunther.

A rivalry like this doesn’t necessarily need a championship, as the talent involved has a legitimate beef, and both are great on the microphone. The build-up to the match already promises to be legendary, and the match itself won’t disappoint, given Seth Rollins’ exceptional skills and Punk’s proven ability to still deliver.

However, a match like this needs to be unpredictable for fans to get into it. To achieve that, the credibility of both Seth Rollins and CM Punk needs to be preserved. Rollins, whenever he returns, and Punk both cannot have too many losses under their belt before the ultimate showdown. Punk has already lost a major match at SummerSlam, and therefore, it’s unlikely he would be booked to lose at Bad Blood.
