Rhea Ripley to face Liv Morgan at SummerSlam for the WWE Women’s World Championship
Rhea Ripley is all set to face Liv Morgan for the WWE Women’s World Championship at SummerSlam, aiming to reclaim the title she never lost. Ever since joining The Judgment Day in 2022 and becoming Dominik Mysterio’s on-screen “Mami,” her career has skyrocketed, making her one of the biggest stars in professional wrestling today.
And why wouldn’t she? She’s effortless on promos, impossible to take your eyes off of, and she backs it all up with incredible in-ring work. She was great when she debuted but has improved so much in such a relatively short period. Stamina! Power! Character work! Mami’s got it all.
At 27 years of age, she has already become a Grand Slam women’s champion, a remarkable achievement that only four other women have been able to achieve before her. Here is a list of all her title reigns in WWE.
WWE NXT UK Women’s Champion (August 26, 2018 – January 12, 2019)
Inaugural NXT UK Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley won the championship tournament by defeating Toni Storm in the finals and became the first-ever NXT UK Women’s Champion. The 139-day reign was branded by her hard-hitting, no-nonsense approach.
Successfully retaining her title against multiple top contenders, including Deonna Purrazzo and Isla Dawn, showcased the dominance that Ripley possessed. Ultimately, her reign was ended by Toni Storm in a rematch at NXT UK TakeOver: Blackpool.
While it may not have been long, Ripley’s reign as champion was fundamental in putting the NXT UK Women’s division on the map and propelling her career to even greater heights of stardom within WWE.
WWE NXT Women’s Champion (December 18, 2019 – March 26, 2020)
Rhea’s rise to prominence began in NXT, where she defeated Shayna Baszler to win the NXT Women’s Championship. This win was a coming-out party of sorts, confirming she is indeed one of the very best in her division.
During her 99-day reign, Ripley defended the title as a fighting champion with bouts against challengers such as Bianca Belair and Toni Storm. Her WrestleMania 36 match against Charlotte Flair, while ultimately resulting in a loss, was widely praised and only enhanced her status even further.
Becoming the first wrestler to defend the NXT Title at WrestleMania in WWE history not only showed how much trust WWE had in her but also ensured her place as a top young star of the company.
WWE RAW Women’s Champion (April 11, 2021 – July 18, 2021)
Three weeks into her main roster debut, Rhea Ripley won the big one at WrestleMania 37 as she defeated Asuka to become WWE RAW Women’s Champion. The match itself was brutal, with both women showing remarkable athletic prowess and stamina.
Ripley’s reign as champion lasted only 98 days, but it was marked by her intense rivalry with Charlotte Flair. Rhea tried her best but had never beaten Charlotte Flair one-on-one until that moment. At Money in the Bank, Charlotte defeated Rhea Ripley once more to win back the RAW Women’s Title.
Unknown to us at the time, this was WWE sowing seeds for a long-term story that would reach its crescendo come WrestleMania 39.
WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion with Nikki ASH (September 20, 2021 – November 22, 2021)
After losing the RAW Women’s Championship, Rhea Ripley encountered a loss of momentum for the first time in her career. However, she branched out into the tag team division and found success alongside Nikki ASH. They won the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship on an episode of RAW by defeating Natalya and Tamina.
Their pairing displayed Ripley’s versatility and readiness to try new things, blending her power moves with Nikki’s aerial offense. Despite their varied styles, they shared a chemistry that fans could identify with. However, their reign was cut short by the duo of Carmella and Zelina Vega, who exploited their miscommunications to win the titles. Ripley’s time as tag champion was notable for enhancing her versatility and strengthening her bond with fans.
WWE Women’s World Champion (April 1, 2023 – April 15, 2024)
Rhea Ripley’s most recent stint as champion was arguably her most dominant. She captured the WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship (which would later be replaced by the Women’s World Championship) at WrestleMania 39 by defeating Charlotte Flair in a match that many considered the best of the night.
The match had everything from brutal bumps to exquisite selling and, most importantly, a build that told a story. Rhea came out looking like an absolute monster, and with her clean victory over Charlotte, she was propelled to the next level as one of the biggest women stars in professional wrestling. It was as if her crowning moment had been fulfilled.
Throughout her 380-day reign, Ripley had several high-profile rivalries, including memorable bouts against Nia Jax, Becky Lynch, and Raquel Rodriguez. From match to match, we saw not just how strong and athletic she was but also the magnetic charisma that eventually won fans over. Her reign ended in controversy when she was forced to vacate the title due to a shoulder injury that she suffered after being ambushed by Liv Morgan in a backstage segment on the night after WrestleMania 40.
After being on the shelves for almost three months, Rhea Ripley made her long-awaited return on the July 8, 2024 episode of Monday Night RAW. The following week, she challenged Liv Morgan for the Women’s World Championship at SummerSlam.
With that being said, it will be intriguing to see if Rhea can dethrone Liv Morgan at SummerSlam and get her title back after never truly losing it. It would also be fun to see if Dominik Mysterio turns on his “Mami” and helps Liv Morgan retain her title.
Only time will tell. One thing that can be said is that Rhea Ripley has been at the top of WWE’s women’s division for quite some time, producing some amazing matches on the main roster, NXT, and NXT UK before it folded. Going at this rate at only 27 years of age, she is undoubtedly going to be one of the major faces of the company for a long time in the future.
