Rhea Ripley reveals real reason behind changing her look in WWE

Rhea Ripley used to be blonde
Rhea Ripley may be one of the most dominant forces in WWE today, but her road to superstardom wasn’t always filled with championship gold and pyro smoke. In fact, the former Women’s World Champion revealed that she nearly walked away from it all and it was that breaking point that birthed the fearless, gothic powerhouse we know now.
Speaking on Stephanie’s Places with Stephanie McMahon, Rhea Ripley dug deep into her early WWE days, recalling how the 2017 Mae Young Classic left her in tears backstage. Blonde-haired, smiling, and unsure of herself, Rhea Ripley said she was filled with doubt and insecurity to the point she almost packed it in and headed back to Australia.
“I cried before my Mae Young Classic match. I didn’t think I was good enough,” Ripley admitted.“I wanted to go home. I wanted to give up.”
But in true Nightmare fashion, she didn’t. Instead, she fought back: First mentally, then physically.
“It brought me to a point where I sat down with myself one day and I was like,‘You need to be better, you need to be yourself, and you need to prove people wrong. And, you know, prove yourself wrong at the end of the day as well.’”
So she went full send. Out with the blonde hair and bubbly persona. In with the studs, the tattoos, the black lipstick, and the unapologetic swagger that screams, “I don’t care what you think.”
“It’s gonna start with what is the most uncomfortable thing that you find about yourself. And for me, it was the way that I looked.”
Inspired by bands like Motionless in White, Papa Roach and Of Mice & Men, Rhea Ripley said she was done hiding. She chopped off her hair, revamped her gear, and brought an attitude that kicked the door down.
“I cut my hair. I changed my gear. I had a new attitude.I don’t care what people think about me anymore. I’m gonna do what feels right for me.I felt like I was finally becoming the person I was supposed to become.”
That metamorphosis? It changed everything. Since her 2018 return to the Mae Young Classic, Rhea has blazed a path of dominance by becoming a Women’s Grand Slam Champion and a cornerstone of WWE’s women’s division.
Now, she’s heading into WrestleMania 41 with another shot at gold, joining Bianca Belair to challenge IYO SKY for the WWE Women’s Championship.
