Over the years, Roman Reigns has ignited some iconic rivalries with top WWE superstars.
The modern era of WWE would undoubtedly be defined by the presence of one superstar or as rightfully should be said, ‘The One’, Roman Reigns. The Tribal Chief has elevated from a hard-luck underdog babyface to a monster heel and has become one of the biggest WWE superstars of all time.
However, in his journey to greatness, Reigns has battled some of the top WWE superstars in high-caliber matches and defined rivalries like no other with his foes. Here is a look at five of those iconic Roman Reigns’ WWE rivals:
5. Drew McIntyre
Roman Reigns and Drew McIntyre stood as the faces of their respective shows, SmackDown and RAW during the pandemic era. Both tried to establish their supremacy over each other, but it was Reigns who toppled The Scottish Warrior in a Champion vs Champion match at Survivor Series that year. Moreover, The Tribal Chief would once again beat McIntyre in another high-stakes situation in Cardiff, Wales at WWE Clash at the Castle 2022 to retain his championship.
4. Jey Uso
At the onset of his Tribal Chief gimmick, the first formidable foe that emerged was his own cousin, Jey Uso. The rivalry between the two Samoans established them on a whole different level and has continued up until last year when Jey became the first man to pin Reigns in over three years, followed by their title match at SummerSlam. Although, it was always Roman Reigns who stood tall in victory, his rivalry with Jey Uso did wonders for both members of The Bloodline.
3. Brock Lesnar
The first high-profile rival of Roman Reigns’ singles career in WWE was Brock Lesnar. The Beast and then-Big Dog squared off for the first time at WrestleMania 31 which was followed by two more WrestleMania and multiple other encounters between the duo over the World Championship. The two dominant forces exchanged victories amongst each other and established an iconic rivalry in the history of WWE.
2. Cody Rhodes
For nearly four years, Roman Reigns as the World Champion proved to be untouchable until he met his Kryptonite, Cody Rhodes. Despite defeating him at WrestleMania 39, Rhodes would work his way back up for another year to earn another opportunity at him. With a compelling narrative, a year-long build and the story ending with Cody’s triumph at WrestleMania 40, Rhodes will forever be known as one of Roman Reigns’ top rivals in WWE.
1. Seth Rollins
When it comes to Roman Reigns, there is no doubt that Seth Rollins can be considered his greatest rival. From their days together in The Shield to battling each other multiple times in their careers, Rollins and Reigns, seen as two WWE counterparts, have a storied history between them. Moreover, it was Rollins who earned a victory over Reigns during his historic title run via disqualification before Cody Rhodes and even proved to be an instrumental part in that reign ending at WrestleMania 40, making him perhaps, Roman Reigns top rival for the ages.
