WWE SmackDown was a taped show this week.
The July 4th edition of Friday Night SmackDown was taped following the June 30th show of Monday Night RAW in the same arena in Pittsburgh. This was done to give superstars the night off for the celebration of the USA Independence Day.
From shocking returns to huge matches being made official, SmackDown presented a lot of jaw-dropping moments. Here are the seven spoilers to look out for this week’s edition of WWE SmackDown:
7. The Bloodline stood tall
Jacob Fatu and Jimmy Uso teamed up to defeat the team of Solo Sikoa and J.C. Matteo. As Fatu was about to put Solo through the table, the newest Bloodline member, Hikuleo, and his brother Tonga Loa came out to attack him, and The Bloodline stood tall at the end of the show.
6. A new tag team makes waves
The tag team of Andrade El Idolo and Rey Fenix made waves as a tag team last week on SmackDown by defeating DIY. They continued the momentum as a team, defeating Fraxiom in an explosive tag team showdown.
5. Alexa Bliss & Charlotte Flair’s alliance etches a win
The unlikely duo of Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair teamed up to compete against Alba Fyre & Piper Niven and B-Fab & Michin in a triple threat match. They worked well and defeated the other two teams to advance to the Fatal 4-way match at WWE Evolution 2 for the WWE Women’s Tag Team titles.
4. Hikuleo’s new name revealed
As mentioned, Hikuleo came out at the end of the show to attack Jacob Fatu alongside Tonga Loa. He was referred to as Tala Tonga, bringing his new identity in front of the WWE Universe on SmackDown this week.
3. The Scottish Warrior returns
At the start of WWE SmackDown this week, Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton had an in-ring segment. The intense talk was interrupted by the returning Drew McIntyre.
He mocked both superstars, but ended up eating an RKO at the hands of WWE’s Apex Predator. Following that, Nick Aldis booked a match between them for WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event on July 12.
2. A WWE legend returned for gold
Tiffany Stratton came out to lay out her plans for WWE Evolution 2. She was interrupted by Jade Cargill, who hinted at challenging her after winning the Queen of the Ring tournament.
However, she was more focused on Evolution and called out Trish Stratus for a match. The Diva of the Decade came out and accepted the challenge for the WWE Women’s title at the all-women’s PLE.
1. Cody Rhodes sets sights on John Cena

Cody Rhodes opened the July 4th edition of WWE SmackDown to reflect on his win in the King of the Ring tournament. Randy Orton joined him and applauded him for his win and asked him to beat John Cena, seemingly confirming that he will choose John Cena as his opponent for SummerSlam.
