This week’s episode of the Blue brand is pre-taped

WWE taped a double dose of SmackDown deliciousness for fans in the house on Friday, which usually impacts how the program appears on television. Marathon tapings result in a lot of filler stretched across four hours of television on consecutive weeks, but this is inevitable owing to the roster’s planned mini-tour in Japan.

WWE SmackDown still has the big story beats correct? A big championship match was set for SummerSlam, as Solo Sikoa’s Bloodline 2.0 proceeded to destroy the competition as the would-be ‘Tribal Chief’ glared down a falling Cody Rhodes. There’s enough meat on the bone between those two to make the next PLE match entertaining, but it’s also true that fans want Roman Reigns back ASAP.

Here are the top five storylines fans can watch out for on WWE SmackDown this week.

4. WWE will try to build more on Andrade vs Carmelo Hayes

Andrade vs Carmelo Hayes was always going to be reliable bell-to-bell, but you have to wonder what the point of this mini-feud is. They’re essentially battling about who was the less of a loss at Money In The Bank, which creates a tense dynamic. Andrade’s victory is great for him, but Hayes needs something better soon.

Hanging tight before losing to big stars like Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes was one thing; looking at the lights for an obvious midcarder like ‘El Idolo’ was another. Good workers may help offset losses, but they need some guidance to do so. Melo does not have that right now. But, how WWE builds the feud between Hayes and Andrade would be an interesting thing to watch.

3. WWE will keep building the match between Nia Jax and Bayley

Bayley claiming that Nia Jax is “clumsy” and prone to injuring those she wrestles? Yes, the lines are a touch too hazy there. Why would a heel like Nia be upset because she was called out for injuring opponents? If anything, Jax would laugh it off. Instead, Bayley got under her skin.

Nia then rushed out of their sit-down interview in a huff. Hmm. This fan still feels these ladies will deliver at SummerSlam, but he’s not certain WWE will go there with the build. So Nia is a cold, heartless heel who is both self-aware and self-conscious about her poor track record of injuring other members of the roster. Let’s hope she just doesn’t injure Bayley.

2. Logan Paul and LA Knight will build up their match for WWE SummerSlam

LA Knight has been carrying a lot of the build to SummerSlam on his own, but Logan Paul has been by to do some solid work during some pre-tapes. On Friday, both performed well in front of a live audience. A special mention goes to GM Aldis for his flawless performance. It’s hardly his fault that WWE believes having wrestlers line at his door makes for intriguing television!

Knight persuaded Logan to sign the contract by claiming that his brother would have the courage to do so. That was a devastating comment, as was Paul’s remark that LA had been wrestling hard for around 20 years without winning as much as he has at the highest level. LP’s arrogance is palpable. But, with this strong momentum going into WWE Summerslam we can hope for LA Knight to create some magic this week.

1. Cody Rhodes will come face to face with The Bloodline on this week’s SmackDown

Yes, there’s a lot of tut-tutting on social media over The Bloodline 2.0 consistently winning SmackDown programs, but WWE shouldn’t be chastised for making a new heel gang appear dominant. Sure, it’s a lot of the same stuff, but that’s the point: nothing can stop them until Roman Reigns arrives and puts an end to Solo’s rebellion.

But, before all those things happen we can expect Cody Rhodes to bring the fight to The Blooldine. We might see many backstage segments where Cody Rhodes could be seen attacking The Bloodline, just to get more beaten up. As mentioned before till Roman returns The Bloodline 2.0 will be a huge problem for “The American Nightmare”.
