Big Names Like Big E and Charlotte Flair are Set to Miss SummerSlam 2024 Due to Injuries
SummerSlam, WWE’s biggest event of the summer, is scheduled to take place on August 4th, 2024, starting at 4:00 am IST. This year’s showcase promises to be one of the most unpredictable events in recent memory.
With high-stakes matches and unexpected outcomes, the excitement is palpable. CM Punk’s return to WWE television for a one-on-one match after 11 long years will stir up plenty of interest, while speculation about potential returns of legends like Roman Reigns or even The Rock adds a layer of excitement.
The world of WWE is notoriously unforgiving and brutal, often leading to injuries that can bench even the most prominent superstars. This year’s SummerSlam is no exception, with several big names set to miss the action due to injuries.
Top on that list is Charlotte Flair, followed by Bobby Lashley, Jimmy Uso, Kofi Kingston, and Asuka. Here’s a closer look at these five superstars, their injuries, and the roles they might have played at SummerSlam.
Charlotte Flair
Charlotte Flair, one of the most decorated female wrestlers of all time, has been sidelined since suffering a torn ACL, MCL, and meniscus during her December 2023 Smackdown match against Asuka. She has been out of action for the past seven months, and her latest injury reports suggest that she will be missing this year’s SummerSlam as well.
Losing Flair at SummerSlam 2024 is a significant blow, especially since she would’ve made sense in multiple marquee matches. Had she been fit, fans could have witnessed a dream match between Charlotte and Jade Cargill, or even another title shot against Bayley. Charlotte’s legacy of dominance means her absence will be deeply felt.
Bobby Lashley
WWE Legend Bobby Lashley is another major superstar missing from this year’s SummerSlam due to a serious knee injury that he sustained while training earlier this year. Lashley, known for his immense strength and agility, has been out for two months after sustaining the injury. His return date is still unknown, with rumors circulating on the internet that WWE is going to release him.
It is also worth mentioning that despite being removed from the internal roster page, he is still a part of WWE’s official roster. Lashley could have been booked in a string of dream matches, including a showdown with Logan Paul for the US Championship, or thrilling encounters with Bron Breakker or Randy Orton. While LA Knight vs. Logan Paul is set to be a highlight, Lashley’s presence would have added even more star power to the event.
Jimmy Uso
Jimmy Uso, one-half of the dynamic Uso brothers and a key figure in WWE’s narrative, is also facing an uncertain SummerSlam due to an undisclosed injury. There is speculation that he might make a return around SummerSlam or the SmackDown before it, yet he won’t be competing in a match at the event.
If fit, Jimmy could have been part of a gory rivalry against the New Bloodline, particularly Tama Tonga, who is responsible for injuring him in the first place. As a result of his injury, the anticipated reunion with his brother Jey against the Tonga Brothers is not likely to happen until Survivor Series. Regardless, fans eagerly await his return to the ring.
Kofi Kingston
A former WWE Champion and one-third of The New Day, Kofi Kingston, has been dealing with a shoulder injury that he suffered during the company’s Japan tour. The injury is likely to keep him out for a few weeks. The New Day has been embroiled in a rivalry with The Final Testament, and there was speculation that SummerSlam could have seen the seeds of a New Day breakup sown.
If fit, Kofi could have been in Xavier Woods’ corner, potentially unintentionally costing him his match against Karrion Kross. The resultant betrayal and the shocking moment of Xavier Woods turning on Kofi at SummerSlam would have been monumental.
Asuka
Asuka, one of WWE’s top attractions and a crucial member of Damage Ctrl, is also out due to a severe knee injury. Her expected recovery time is not before 2025, which means she won’t be back anytime soon. Damage Ctrl is currently in a rivalry with Sonya Deville’s new faction consisting of Zoey Stark and Shayna Baszler.
If fit, Asuka could have been part of a thrilling six-woman tag match involving Damage Ctrl against Sonya Deville’s new faction at SummerSlam. As an integral player in WWE’s women’s division, Asuka’s involvement could have significantly altered the dynamics of the ongoing feud. Her unique style and charisma will be missed on the SummerSlam stage.
However, even with those heavy hitters on the sidelines, this year’s edition of SummerSlam still has a lot going for it. With all of the unexpected turns and match results shrouded in secrecy, fans are going to be in for quite a ride. With the likes of CM Punk returning to in-ring action and the potential for surprise appearances, SummerSlam 2024 could very well go down as one of the greatest in WWE history.
