Since, John Cena’s heel turn, fans have been waiting for the Rock’s return
‘The Final Boss’ may be staying off WWE screens for longer than expected. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson stunned fans earlier this year after he directly led John Cena to turn heel on Cody Rhodes.
His transformation into ‘The Final Boss’ brought a fresh edge to WWE television, especially during the road to WrestleMania 40 last year.
However, the latest backstage update indicates that Johnson has no immediate plans to return and SummerSlam 2025 will likely go on without him.
Despite his heavy involvement in The Bloodline’s power struggle last year to John Cena’s shocking heel turn on Cody Rhodes earlier this year, he hasn’t appeared on WWE TV since Elimination Chamber in Toronto.
WWE SummerSlam will be without The Rock

Cody Rhodes is gearing up for a huge rematch against John Cena at WWE SummerSlam 2025 for the Undisputed WWE Championship. Given The Rock’s prior role in Cena’s turn and rise to power, many fans expected him to play a part in the storyline’s next chapter.
However, according to a report from Bodyslam.net, WWE has no internal plans for ‘The People’s Champ’ to appear at WWE SummerSlam. The update further notes that there has been “no communication or creative discussions” regarding his return.
Fans are still pissed at The Rock
The backlash from WrestleMania 41 still looms over ‘The Final Boss’. After hyping his involvement in the Cena-Cody saga, Johnson’s absence from the grand event left many fans disappointed. His decision to skip WrestleMania and allow rapper Travis Scott to appear instead left the storyline feeling unfinished.
Since then, Johnson has remained completely absent from WWE programming, with no follow-ups or references made to explain his disappearance.
While Johnson’s creative influence and star power are undeniable, his Hollywood commitments continue to make consistent appearances nearly impossible. Although his return generated massive hype earlier this year, it now appears WWE has pivoted its plans entirely.
Unless there’s a last-minute change or surprise, fans should not expect ‘The Final Boss’ to walk through the curtain at SummerSlam 2025.
Is The Rock returning for WWE SummerSlam 2025?
No, current reports indicate The Rock is not scheduled to appear at WWE SummerSlam.
Why did The Rock miss WrestleMania 41?
Although no official reason was given, The Rock’s absence was never addressed on WWE TV, disappointing fans who expected him to appear in Cena’s match.
Will The Rock return to WWE later in 2025?
There’s no confirmed timeline, but sources suggest he won’t return in the near future due to other commitments.
