What would Punk be up to once he returns?

CM Punk gave a fitting reply to his naysayers by performing outstandingly well in the Hell in a Cell match against Drew McIntyre at the Bad Blood PLE. Many are dubbing the blood-filled encounter as the match of the year. This is a testament to the veteran’s commitment to the wrestling business.

Punk would now go on a well-deserved break to recuperate from the Cell match’s heavy toll on his body. But what could he be up to once he is back in the mix? Here, we look at the top five things CM Punk could do once he returns from his hiatus.

5. Take up a part-time announcing role

Punk has time and again proved his worth, not only as an in-ring competitor but a witty announcer in the limited time he has donned the commentator’s hat. The RAW announcing team is remarkably low on star power, and The Second City Saint’s arrival could provide the much-needed oomph factor it is missing. Moreover, it would provide Punk with added time to fully recover from his nagging injuries. A win-win situation for both him and WWE.

4. Reunite with Kofi Kingston once he gets betrayed by Xavier Woods

Kofi Kingston would be left stranded if the Stamford-based promotion finally decides to pull the plug on Xavier Woods’ heel turn. In such tough times, the former WWE champion could turn to an old ally for some much-needed help and enter CM Punk.

Lest you forget, the unlikely duo were the WWE tag team champions once, back in 2008. WWE has a penchant for nostalgia, seeing its reunification of the Awesome Truth tag team of The Miz and Truth. Granted, that particular reunion has turned sour recently, but the wrestling juggernaut can resist that same temptation with Punk and Kingston. If the past tag team champions reunite, it would be a moment to savour for the wrestling loyalists.

3. Vie for the World Heavyweight Championship

Ever since he returned to WWE, Punk has been quite vocal about getting a shot at the world title. Now, with McIntyre in the rearview, he could finally fulfil his wish to go for Gunther‘s beloved strap. As impressive as the Ring General’s reign as the Red brand’s top guy has been, the Stamford-based promotion has struggled to provide new challengers to his throne.

Punk’s addition to the title picture could change all that, as he would be a different gravy to whatever has been thrown at the Austrian so far. Moreover, a technician coming up against a mixed-style wrestler is an intriguing prospect in itself. Fans would hope that Triple H makes this feud happen sooner rather than later.

2. Feud with The Judgement Day

Not many people might remember, but CM Punk’s first singles adversary after his 2023 return was Dominik Mysterio, albeit in a live event at the iconic Madison Square Gardens. Though WWE didn’t get the chance to fully explore that particular rivalry, it could do so once the Best in The World is back from his sabbatical.

What’s more, Dirty Dom could bring in his Judgement Day mates to help him out against the Chicago native. Additionally, the wily Finn Balor going toe-to-toe against Punk could be an exciting prospect and would be a dream match of sorts. It’s high time that the heel stable moves on from feuding against the Terror Twin duo of Rhea Ripley and Damian Priest, as that saga has grown repetitive. Punk could prove to be the next eternal babyface that the villainous group targets.

1. Finally embarked on his long-teased rivalry with Seth Rollins

The footage of Seth Rollins going berserk after CM Punk marked his shocking return at the 2023 Survivor Series WarGames PLE has been seen by every WWE fan. That goes to show the amount of hatred ‘The Visionary’ has for the veteran.

The Voice of The Voiceless isn’t a fan of Rollins either, as has become apparent by the numerous interactions the two have had since Punk’s return. The Stamford-based promotion has for long teased a feud between the two eccentric performers. It seems like the time has finally arrived for it to materialise once the two-time WWE champion is back from his break.

A rivalry blurring the lines between reality and kayfabe is always hit with the masses, and the audience could rest assured Punk vs Rollins would be nothing short of spectacular.

Punk might be on the fag end of his wrestling career, but he has a lot to give to the industry. His booking after his 2023 return has been stellar, and it remains to be seen how he is handled going forward. The possibilities are endless, let’s see which possibility the creative powers explore next when it comes to the legendary performer.
