Cody Rhodes had a chance to sit down with Timothée Chalamet

Cody Rhodes’ podcast, What Do You Wanna Talk About, just dropped its biggest guest yet, Oscar-nominated actor Timothée Chalamet.

While the Hollywood star joined the show to promote his upcoming A24 film Marty Supreme, the conversation quickly shifted into a passionate deep dive on pro wrestling. And as it turns out, Chalamet isn’t just a celebrity fan, he’s been immersed in the business since childhood.

Filmed in a secret “Kayfabe space” provided by Fanatics, the interview opened with an unexpectedly vulnerable moment from Rhodes.

The Undisputed WWE Champion admitted he was nervous to introduce the movie star, prompting Chalamet to share a story about his father meeting Johnny Cash on the set of Gunsmoke. The parallel set an early tone of mutual admiration as Chalamet told Rhodes he felt the same sense of awe sitting beside him.

Timothée Chalamet’s childhood is filled with memories of pro-wrestling, as he revealed his favourite wrestling event

Timothée Chalamet explained that growing up near Times Square meant wrestling was part of his daily world.

He frequented the old WWF store and absorbed the sport as a cultural staple rather than a niche interest.

“I don’t think in 2025 wrestling is downstream from pop culture,” he said. “I think it is pop culture.”

His fandom runs deeper than most would expect. When asked about his favorite wrestling memory, the actor didn’t reference WrestleMania or a marquee stadium show. Instead, he went straight to something grittier, rawer, and unmistakably hardcore, ECW.

“That’s my favorite pay-per-view ever is ECW One Night Stand in New York at the Hammerstein Ballroom,” he said.

“That was Sabu, Rey Mysterio, and John Cena. And that’s an RVD push got canceled there for a weed violation or something. This is the classic John Cena throws the shirt, the shirt comes back. But that crowd was electric. And JBL talking [trash] from the stands. That is like a masterpiece.”

Timothée Chalamet reveals why it is ‘impossible’ for WWE to host a show at Hammerstein Ball

Timothée Chalamet also showed an unexpected depth of appreciation for Jeff Hardy, one that blended wrestling analysis with Hollywood sensibilities.

“I love Jeff Hardy… doing the Swanton Bomb,” he said. “Talk about acting… He is sort of like the Heath Ledger of wrestling… strange… brilliant artist weird… I feel like they didn’t realize how big he was at the time.”

He didn’t stop there. He praised Paul Heyman’s unmatched authenticity on the mic, noting, “I love Paul Heyman, dude. I like that he’s on all the broadcasts. I think he brings such a level of authenticity… what he’s saying is from the gut… but his animosity is so real for the corporate big dogs.”

Chalamet then revealed he even tried to host the premiere of Marty Supreme at the Hammerstein Ballroom, only to learn from Triple H why the venue is financially impossible.

“He said there’s one elevator you have to load everything in and out of.”

Cody backed him up, calling it “the worst back of house ever,” though he still praised the magic of walking out to fans on the street post-show.

Before wrapping up, Chalamet connected acting and wrestling through a single shared drive: chasing greatness. He described Marty Supreme, a 1950s New York tale about a hustler pursuing ping pong glory, as part high art, part popcorn thrill ride. To him, both worlds thrive on ambition, pressure, and character.

What is Marty Supreme about?

It’s an A24 film starring Chalamet as Marty Mauser, a hustler navigating the underground ping pong world of 1950s New York.

Why does Chalamet love ECW One Night Stand so much?

He considers it a “masterpiece” thanks to its raw atmosphere, electric crowd, and iconic John Cena–RVD moment.
