Top five WWE stars who lost their push under Triple H’s leadership

Many stars have enjoyed Triple H’s reign but some suffered hard
Triple H has been a central figure responsible for turning around the failing fortunes of WWE in recent years, since stepping into the role as the man at the helm behind WWE’s Creative Vision. Fans and superstars have praised his creative decisions alike, crediting him for turning around the company as of late.
This is an interesting side to Triple H as he has allowed a number of new and exciting talents from the NXT brand (Superstars who were failing under Vince McMahon) to finally get their hands on the brass ring.
Dominik Mysterio, Damian Priest, Sami Zayn and Jey Uso are some of the superstars who have seen their careers rejuvenated under Triple H; The approach has not only helped to create new stars like Bron Breakker but also is what led to a more diverse and exciting product for fans.
Whatever path Triple H & Co. has plotted for the company creatively, it has worked out as the company is doing better than ever before. The company is on the rise, with ratings (the only comparable data between all of these WWE and non-WWE companies) higher than they’ve ever been and live events selling out faster than ever before.
Part of it most certainly goes to Triple H trying to build a more compelling and unpredictable presentation, one that highlights the true range of capability from the complete roster. But then, as with any other regime there exists a coterie of superstars who would be the biggest benefactors from it and some poor souls will face the heaviest brunt.
Today, we are going to take a look at the list of superstars who were right on the verge of having promising careers ahead of them but almost instantaneously lost their push ever since Triple H took over.
Austin Theory
Austin Theory was once almost guaranteed the spot to be the successor of John Cena as the next face of the company. He was Vince McMahon’s golden boy, and he was pushed pretty hard by the company from his initial days with a Money In The Bank victory as well as one of the longest United States Championship reigns in the modern era.
If you look at the spot he is in currently, you will realize that he has essentially been reduced to a comedy gimmick, and even though he did become tag team champion with Grayson Waller this year at WrestleMania, that reign wasn’t memorable by any stretch.
Still, WWE is playing up a future split between the two, and Austin Theory is certainly the most likely candidate to turn babyface.
If it all goes well, there is a good chance he will regain his spot as one of the main eventers in the future because he is extremely talented in both the ring and on the microphone. He just needs to find the right gimmick, and he will be untouchable.
Braun Strowman
Next up is Braun Strowman. Braun Strowman used to be considered one of WWE’s top stars, even main-eventing WrestleMania 35 with Roman Reigns out of the action and dropping an otherwise undefeated Goldberg for the Universal title.
And even if he was only in that spot because Roman Reigns wasn’t available that year, he still was one of the go-to Vince McMahon guys. However, since Triple H has taken over Strowman’s career is at an all-time low. As imposing as he is, few in the wrestling world would be surprised if the Monster never completely redeems himself from his current status as an upper mid-card act.
Strowman’s fall from grace can be chalked up to a variety of circumstances, from injuries to creative suppression. But at the moment, things are looking slightly brighter for him because his current feud with Bronson Reed has been extremely entertaining and is grabbing a lot of eyeballs.
But it’s not likely that he will win this rivalry as well since Triple H really seems to be trying his best to build Bronson Reed as WWE’s next monster, and to cement that, he needs this victory more.
The Miz
The Miz is already a legend and one of the most decorated WWE superstars of all time, and therefore, he will always have a place in the card, no matter who is in charge. But it’s just that even if the gimmick of The Miz is to not be taken seriously, it was also his gimmick to keep winning despite no one expecting him to win, and that is what has made him a double Grand Slam champion in the WWE.
If you try to think in the past 10-15 years, Miz has almost always been a champion, his world title reigns might have been underwhelming, but he was extremely entertaining in the tag team division, and his reigns as the mid-card champion have also been memorable, with his 2016-17 Intercontinental Championship reign being the most memorable.
He hasn’t won a singles championship ever since, and with the way he is currently being booked by Triple H, even though he did become tag team champion with R-Truth once, it’s not likely he will be breaking Chris Jericho’s record of the highest number of Intercontinental title reigns anytime soon. Something which would have happened already if Vince was at the helm of things.
Baron Corbin
Baron Corbin is another superstar who has lost his push under Triple H’s leadership. Baron Corbin was once a rising star in WWE, with many predicting big things for the former United States Champion.
After an underwhelming run in the main roster, where Vince McMahon consistently booked him as a main eventer heel, despite the crowd absolutely rejecting him, not because he was good at his job, but because fans just didn’t want to see him.
In his defense, the storylines were absolutely garbage at that point, and WWE, mainly Raw, had become almost unwatchable. After Triple H took over, they did try to give him a few new gimmicks, and though he tried his best, it never really worked out.
So, he went back to NXT, where he had an extremely impressive run, but ever since being drafted back to SmackDown, he has once again lost his momentum, as he has made friends with the ultimate jobber, Apollo Crews, and has consistently jobbed to Carmelo Hayes and Legado del Fantasma on SmackDown ever since. Despite all his talents, things aren’t looking bright for him.
Bobby Lashley
Last but not least, we have Bobby Lashley. Bobby Lashley was always a main eventer under Vince McMahon’s regime. Ever since he joined forces with MVP to form The Hurt Business, he became ready for the WWE Championship, which he would soon win by defeating Miz on an episode of Monday Night Raw.
He would stay champion thereafter for a long time, getting involved in excellent rivalries against the likes of Drew McIntyre and Brock Lesnar. Ever since Triple H took over, Lashley lost his charm, and he wasn’t involved in the main event scene anymore.
He was just there, he even won the United States Championship, but once again, nothing too memorable. When he joined forces with The Street Profits to form a new faction, many thought that they would run Friday Night SmackDown, and we would get a heated rivalry between The Bloodline and them, but none of that happened.
And this lack of creative direction with his character might have been the reason why Lashley hasn’t renewed his contract with WWE, which expired last month. Lashley has also been quoted as saying that he had a better connection with Vince McMahon and that Triple H’s leadership has not been as beneficial for him in a podcast interview.
