Vince McMahon resigned from his position at TKO Group in January 2024!
The former co-founder and CEO of WWE, Vince McMahon, resigned as WWE CEO and chairman in June 2022, following claims of hush-money agreements over affairs with former WWE employees. He later returned to the promotion in early 2023 to facilitate the sale of the company.
In 2023, WWE was merged with the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) to form the TKO group by their parent company, Endeavor Group Holdings in April. McMahon returned to serve as the executive chairman of the newly merged company, TKO Group Holdings (TKO).
Vince later resigned from his position at TKO Group in January 2024 following allegations of trafficking and assault. The TKO deal is the first time that the promotion is not entirely owned and operated by the McMahon family.
Is Vince McMahon planning to buy back WWE from TKO?
On a recent episode of his podcast, former WWE announcer Jonathan Coachman suggested that Vince McMahon might have a plan in place for his return to the promotion. He suggested that McMahon might have agreed to step down and sell WWE with the condition that he could buy it back once he sorted out his legal issues.
The comments sparked a frenzy online, as later Chris Featherstone also reported that McMahon is interested in buying back the company. Despite the buzz, many within the industry put little faith in the claims.
TKOâs stance
Masked J of PW Nexus noted on X (Twitter) that TKO is uninterested in selling a sports entertainment giant, with one source laughing at the idea of McMahon trying to purchase the company.
âI was given word that TKO is not interested in selling off #WWE. And the source I spoke with chuckled at the thought of Vince purchasing it back.
Itâs very possible he may feel like he wants it back, but seems very unlikely at this point since WWE is not for sale.â
WWEâs value has skyrocketed since its merger with the UFC, with the promotion posting record-breaking numbers. Given this, it seems highly unlikely that Vince is financially able to purchase a majority stake.
McMahon still holds shares in TKO Group Holdings, but is far from controlling. According to Wrestlenomics, Endeavor, Silver Lake equity holders, and Egon Durban collectively own more than 60% of the company.
To summarise, Coachman might have heard some chatter about McMahonâs interest there have been no solid reports from any outlet confirming the story. At this point, the notion of Vince McMahon buying back WWE is purely speculative and lacks any solid foundation.
