WWE ID offers independent wrestlers a direct route to a possible career in WWE
On October 29, WWE announced that it has launched a new program called ‘WWE ID’. As per the company, it is a developmental program designed to provide independent wrestlers with a potential path to a possible career in WWE.
Since the announcement by the promotion, there has been much curiosity among fans about the program, its goals, and the opportunities it provides.
As per the statement released by the WWE, WWE ID stands for ‘WWE Independent Development’. As stated above it is a developmental program designed to provide independent wrestlers a potential path to WWE.
WWE’s statement indicates that the program is designed to support independent wrestling schools and promotions by granting them access to high-quality training and mentorship. It will also improve developmental opportunities for current talent.
The program further aims to designate key independent wrestling schools with the WWE ID label to offer new trainees and current talent improved developmental opportunities.
List of schools that will be provided the WWE ID designation
- Booker T’s Reality of Wrestling (Houston)
- Cody Rhodes’ Nightmare Factory (Atlanta)
- Seth Rollins’ Black and Brave Academy (Davenport, Iowa)
- Elite Pro Wrestling Training Center (Concord, N.H.)
- KnokX Pro Academy (Los Angeles)
WWE ID aims to strengthen the independent wrestling ecosystem
Alongside the school designation, the Independent Development program will also recognize leading independent wrestling talents with a ‘Prospect’ label. This will enable the promotion to enhance its development through financial support, training, mentorship, and access to facilities for in-ring practice.
This innovative concept by the company introduces a new level of financial support for independent wrestling schools, which is unprecedented in the promotion’s history.
During the Triple H Era, the promotion has broadened its outreach to promotions beyond its own universe, particularly through partnership agreements with TNA and Pro Wrestling NOAH.
In the statement released on the promotion’s website, the current COO of the WWE, Triple H spoke about the program and his vision for the independent circuit. “WWE ID is the latest in our efforts to identify and support the journey of up-and-coming wrestlers, in turn raising the profile of and strengthening the independent wrestling ecosystem.”
The new program provides an unprecedented opportunity for new talents to make a career in the promotion. It would be interesting to see the kind of talent that comes out with the help of this new program.
